Thanks but not really what I'm after. NiB reciever sets are all over the net, but nothing that I can find with just the upper. A NiB lower seems like a waste of money, but I may go for an upper, if it doesn't look completely retarded.

I've had a lot of time on several XLR stocks and chassis, and IMO they are without a doubt the best aftermarket option for any buffer tube stock style rifle.

I only have M4 and Fiberite stocks to compare it to. It "feels" durable and rigid compared to my other stocks. Nothing on the stock wiggles or has any play to it. I like how smooth it is seems like it can't get caught on anything. One thing I like about it is the heel is angled so it feels nice sitting on the shoulder. Only downside I see is that you have to have something long and thin to remove it from the extension.

And that pretty much sums it up. I've toyed with getting a thread on can. Right now my only thread on ones are pistol calibers. I was originally planning to get a Ranger 3 last year, but they shelved that entire program, and I can't find a Ranger 2 anymore. I might have to revisit this thread on 5.56 can down the road, or just get a Saker.

Thanks. I'll get a full pic of the just the upper tomorrow. It's a 12.5" barrel with 12" Fortis Rev rail. AAC 762-SD with 2.0 comp QD Adapter. It's very tight but works.

That's what I was thinking. Once you subtract the 0.6" for the barrel threads you'd think that a 12" handguard would only cover 0.1" of the muzzle device.

What may be a good handguard for a 12.5" barrel is the 12" M-LOK Lite Rail from 2A Armament. They say that it's actual length is 11.88".

I've measured this a dozen times with other uppers and 12" handguards... I don't see how a 12.5" barrel is going to work with a 12" rail like medic has. Would love to see your measurements when you get a chance.

Like doc mentioned, I'm thinking the only way to get it to work with an AAC can is an 11" handguard.... which is fitting since I just gave away my only 11" [BD]

Where the normal handguard start about even with the pivot pin, the MML has that flare on the upper and handguard looks to start at least 0.5" further out.

Pyzik is correct, if you were to close the bolt and insert a rod down the bore that is the length of your barrel.

I don't know where's starting from, but from the pics it looks like you're right. Once you add the 0.6" for the barrel threads it looks like it's 13".

I didn't do exact measuring because I didn't want to remove the rail or barrel. That's from beginning of the rail + or - a little. I spoke with the manufacturer yesterday to confirm the 12 5/8" to the end of threads. Apparently it's just enough to make a difference. I'm open to trying a different 12.5" barrel for comparison purposes. 😉[BD]

I installed my DD RIS II FSP on my 16" BCM M4 SOCOM upper Saturday afternoon. Holy Hell!!! Given the beating that was required to remove them, I can only surmise that Bravo Company used the Hammer of Thor to drive the taper pins that hold the FSB in place. The rail install was pretty straightforward, and the only other problem i encountered was reinstalling the taper pins in the FSB. With the rail over the barrel, i found it impossible to hit the pins squarely with my punch. Despite supporting the entire assembly in a bench block i made from some scrap wood and using a 3 lb. hammer to drive them in, i wasn't able to get the taper pins in as far as they were originally. They sit about flush on the left side of the weapon, where as originally they protruded roughly .030". I highly doubt they're going anywhere and probably isn't cause for concern. But being the perfectionist i am, it still bugs me.

Eric, I still have the last one I built from their "AR in a Bag" for dealers back in the 70's. Those days Oly was SGW Schuetzen Gun Works. I probably assembled a dozen or more. Complete AR - totally disassembled for $459. The old girl has been upgraded a few times since then.

As funny as that sounds that stuffs for real. Buddy handed me is rifle the other day and his Miculek brake was sideways. I pointed it out and he just gave it a half spin and said it was fixed.

The SVComp won't find a permanent home on that upper. It's the LH upper, so it will wear a suppressor compatible muzzle device.

Be thankful it's just your wife's loving complaints. A few days ago my wife and I were watching tv and out the corner of my eye I see our 2 year old walking around playing with the 11" NSR I just got in. Luckily I got to her about the same moment she decided it would have made a good drum stick. Apparently she thought to "make pretty music with it" :)
