Then I saw him on youtube and figured out that he speaks English just fine. He just can spell worth a shit. Then it all came together and made sense. [:D]

Thanks! It definitely is different but I have to say it really compliments the rifle well. Also really helps balance it.

I said when I got the osprey I wasn't going to bother with a fixed barrel adapter and piston for a rifle since I had a rifle can. However when I picked it up I had been working on my subsonic loads and said the heck with I and picked up what I needed while I was at my dealer. . I'm glad I did.

I guess laws concerning intellectual property don't apply to them. I dropped a line to AI and a few other companies about them using their promo work by slapping their own logo on it. "We post general images we see on the net. Some we find. Others are sent to us by fans. Many are promo pictures from other companies and their products. Be it AI rifles or suppressor products. Which is why we put "posted at" in the watermark. . If it's of concern, I will just take it down.

Sincerely, "

I guess laws concerning intellectual property don't apply to them. I dropped a line to AI and a few other companies about them using their promo work by slapping their own logo on it. I may not feel like dropping coin on an attorney, but there's a couple other companies out there who might feel differently.

It happens to me as well. The ones I'm amazed at are when they use my composites and I'm the guy in the picture. Haha. They tell me someone else sent it to them and said they can use it. :/

Almost have the 12.5" upper buttoned up, and she's looking and handling better then I imagined.

I already have a BCM lower on a form 1, but it has an 11.5" waiting when I finally get the stamp back. So I'll need another lower to accommodate the Noveske. I'd really prefer to SBR my Gen 2, but for the life of me I can't get the takedown pins to suit the upper. I can get one or the other to seat, but then it's pair wouldn't budge no matter what I try. They are both chainsaws for what it matters, any suggestions?

Spot on. I am using Noveske branded pins. But no issue with my factory gen3 upper? A little snug, but nothing like this.

I'll change out the pins after work and see if that helps any. Thanks Gost

Thanks! I'm really digging it, far from the lightest AR in our mix but the balance is just about perfect. Still haven't pinpointed exactly which can it's going to run, but the AAC mini is the flavor I'm trending towards. Should be a cool little blaster... In about a year :/

been very happy with the performance of mine. I'm not a reloader nor do I own a chrono so I cant speak of the hard data, but impressed with the quality and accuracy. The 6.8 wears a UTG Pro rail which is rather nice as well, to the dismay of some. Topped off with a spikes dynacomp, built on JBO billet lower and CMT billet upper. Trigger is a tuned mil-spec with JP yellow springs, a JBO adjustable grip screw and has been honed and polished. Breaks at a crisp 3.6lbs with near zero takeup. Scope is a Nikon 3-9x40 in a PA mount. Magpul BUIS, AFG and CTR stock. Extended mag release is Odin. Was a fun build, just wish it were cheaper to plink!

That's a great build. When I was using a 6.8 I had great accuracy results too. I used S&B ammo from the factory but I did reload so that helped a lot.

I hear you on that! This is the only Noveske product I've ever owned and I have to say, it made me a fan for life. I was fortunate enough to get it through a group buy on The Hide in August 2012, just a few months before John passed and also right before Obama got re-elected and the gun control panic struck.

Just out of curiosity, I was reading several posts recently about how Noveske's QC went down drastically after John died. Do you know if there's any truth to that? I could understand if it suffered a little bit, I'm just wondering if it's bad enough to justify not buying their rifles. I highly doubt it, but I have no info to suggest either way.

You know, I still like Noveske, I've hung out with the crew there (not sure who is left though) but yeah, I believe the QC went down especially after Sheri left. Fortunately, it seems like they've fixed most of their issues.

I think the biggest challenge now is finding their identity post-Johnny and who at Noveske is going to innovate and come up with new products. In the last 2 years, they've virtually come up with no new products.

The Johnny Rifle in my opinion was flop. Limited to 250 units, they're still readily available across the net. It was also over a year too late. Color scheme sucked, and they should have also offered a 5.56 version along with the 300.

They need to drop the Gen III line and go back to their roots with the Forged receivers. The Gen III's are nice, but not 3k nice, and in this market, you're not going to sell a ton of them.

They also need to make their basic RECCE and Light Carbine uppers more affordable. They're over $900 now, when they used to be in the high 600's/low 700's. With coupon codes, I recall buying a Basic Light Carbine upper for $590.

Yeah, the Johnny Rifle was/is too niche. 300 blackout, 10.5" SBR, and at $2400, too expensive for a forged receiver set in the minds of most people. Offering it in 5.56 would have made it accessible to a larger market, for certain.

They also made some mistakes like pairing up with Rubber City Armory on the bolt carrier groups, which was the same thing as putting a Gucci tag on a turd.

Spot on assessment. I agree the Johnny rifle was a sales flop, but I appreciate what they were trying to do. Making a tribute rifle from John's personal goto. Makes sense. 300blk just kinda sputtered, and not many guys are buying factory sbrs.

The two biggest problems I see at Noveske ATM is 1 their pricing scheme. 300$ for a stripped upper? 500$ barrels? That's just not competitive in today's market.

And 2 it seems from the outside looking in that everyone there is afraid to mess with a proven winner. Particularly a formula that could possibly piss off the faithful by breaking out something new John hadn't had a hand in personally developing. But the problem is that formula is getting a bit long in the tooth. And guys like me who are willing to pay those prices already have 2-3 Noveske rifles so why pay another 3k for a carbon clone?

They should have beat erathr3 to the punch and made the nsr Mlok. I kept waiting and waiting and damn if it still hasn't happened.

I really hope they figure it out though. Noveske rifles were the first ARs I absolutely fell in love with. John is one of my heroes and I'll continue to support the brand for no other reason then continued respect. But they gotta get some fresh thinking and passionate people

I've been on the road, so i'm a little late to the conversation...

I own two complete factory built Noveske rifles from when John was still at the helm (both are forged Gen2 lowers with VIS uppers) and both are phenomenal weapons. I've got a couple "Chainsaw" all Noveske guns (both gen 2 lowers, with one forged upper and the other a Noveske MUR) i built using barrels i bought when John was still alive, and those are also awesome weapons, cobbled together as they may be.

Forged Noveske receivers i've purchased post-Johnny have been spotty on quality. Things like poor fit between the lower and various uppers, anodizing that looks worse than my Aero blem, trigger guard pin holes drilled too high on the receiver ears, etc. Little stuff, but enough to make one wonder, WTF?!

My one and only foray into Gen 3 territory is a factory 10.5" SBR in 5.56 with the Switchblock. I got one hell of a deal on that gun, which brought the price down to about what i payed for my complete guns in 2011. It's a beautiful gun with impeccable craftsmanship, and it's a great shooter. That said, i don't think i'd have paid retail for it. With the exception of the switchblock system and the accompanying custom SWR made split quad rail, there's nothing there that can't be had elsewhere for considerably less money. I still root for Team Noveske, and will continue to support them when i can. For example, i scored a great deal on a stainless Noveske 300BLK barrel from ROG Tactical for my Blackout build, but there's no way i'd pay $300 for a stripped Gen 3 upper to go along with it. The barrel will be mounted to a BCM forged upper and paired with a Geissele Mk8 rail and LMT BCG, all arguably equal to or better in quality than an all Noveske upper for much less money. But the barrel itself is probably one of the best on the market, and for what i paid it's well worth the slight premium in price. Again, like my Gen 3 SBR, at full retail, i'm not sure i'd have bought it.

As for the Johnny rifle, if it was the standard black anodized finish and a few hundred bucks cheaper, i might have bought one, but only because i want another factory SBR and i was already planning on building building a 10.5" 300BLK upper. But at that price and in that color scheme, i'll pass. I'll be the first to admit to a being a bit of a Noveske fanboy, but how long can they survive riding the coat tails of John's legacy? As has been said before, i'd love to see them to return to their roots and start innovating again, while at the same time bringing prices down to levels that are affordable to a broader spectrum of people. That would be a far more fitting tribute to Johnny than any limited edition rifle ever could be.

In my opinion I don't see Gen 3 as a product that John would have produced. Noveske took pride in that their receivers were forged. I also don't think he would have allowed his name to be associated with a company like Rubber City Armory. And like others have said I wonder why they haven't produced a M-LOK NSR.

The Noveske Gen 2 forged lower is my all-time favorite. I'm lucky enough to own one of the first couple hundred. And i've got a damn near flawless Chainsaw Gen 2 in the safe waiting for a future build.

As for Rubber City Armory, i bought one of their BCGs very early on and found it to be of high quality. Half a year later, i bought another one that looks like it was produced by a junior high metal shop student. The bolt was out of spec and looked like it had been cut with a Dremel, so i emailed pics to them and asked for a replacement. They told me to send it back, and that they'd ship me a new bolt ASAP. In fact, they sent me two new bolts, one to replace the out of spec one, and one "for my troubles". It's a good thing they did send two, as one of the replacements was out of spec as well. I think they had Mr. Magoo on QC duty. I've written RCA off completely.

My only guess about why they haven't produced an M-LOK NSR, other than that they can't even seem to produce any of their other rails with regularity or in quantity, is that Noveske joined forces with Eric Kincel/Vltor to develop the keymod standard, didn't they? That being the case, i can sort of understand them not making an M-LOK rail. KeyMod being open source, while M-LOK is proprietary may have something to do with it also.

GOST
30 September 2015, 06:36
Would be easy for them to produce a NSR in M-LOK considering that the company that makes the NSR for them is already making 2 other handguards in M-LOK.

I'm going to let John speak for himself on the BCG issue..

"We asked John if he used any magic or fancy coatings on his personal gun. He laughed, saying 'Yes, fancy magical military parkerizing--feel free to quote me on that.' He added that all they used were Mil-spec M16 BCGs, and they worked well."

It's no secret I've had great success with Fathom's BCGs, but the only reason I branched out originally was because I already had a stash of proven LMT and BCMs. Having never had first hand experience with RCA I can't comment one way or another, but I do believe with good QC nitride is a viable option... However I'd probably never sell anymore of my milspecs, unless a friend needed one.

I'll admit my newest noveske parts build is a tad multi color'd. The lower doesn't match the upper, and neither matches the NSR. But it's so insignificant to me as not to care.

As far as the generations go, I have examples of all of them. The gen 2 is my most prized and I'm always on the lookout for more but my gen 3 chainsaw is almost identical imho. Would John have gone for billet receivers? Unfortunately we will never know if he'd have released the gen 3. But we can glean a little inside insight from a man who knew him well.

Stickman circa 2014:
"I have that interview taped, and listen to it from time to time. We had a lot of fun on that interview, and there is a lot in that article which didn't end up in print. I can throw the BS flag on John being against billet receivers, after all, what was the MUR?"

I agree, salt bath nitriding is an extremely viable option. My only experience with nitride BCGs are RCAs. The carriers themselves are fine. Even the one with the funky staking on the gas key screws has run flawlessly since getting an in spec bolt.

As i said above, my factory built gen 3 rifle is a work of art. But even on that gun, the anodized finish of the rail doesn't match the Cerakote finish on the receivers. It's a subtle difference and doesn't bother me in the least. The difference in the color of the last collection of Noveske parts i bought isn't so subtle, but i still really don't care. The gun runs well and is accurate. At any rate, I call my last Noveske parts build my urban camo rifle. The lower, upper, and NSR, all of which are "firsts" and not Chainsaw parts, all have a different shade of black. Add a grey USGI magazine, and boom...urban camo.

I'm happy that my calico carbine inspired your build! With the way the lines of the NSR and Gen 3 receivers match up, yours is a lot cleaner looking than mine. Which optic and can are you thinking about for her? It would seem that 12.5" is the SBR sweet spot. It's probably one of the nicer handling carbines i own, although with the can attached it's pretty front heavy.

Hmm, that wouldn't be one of those Chainsaws that Rainier had for sale? Ask me how I know.

I couldn't resist. Had 1 more factory built upper from the Johnny Noveske years without a lower.

Glad to see someone else picked one up. I need to get some pics of mine and the WEVO lower, picked them up last weekend but it's been one hell of a week in my neck of the woods.

Damn those look sexy!

Thanks for picking one up!

Where would one acquire a print of this? I loved This photo when the contest was going on and I still love it!

Is that going to be posted in the WEVO Classified Section ??? :P

Same same. And exactly the same reason why I grabbed one. I passed on the WEVO kitty lower because this popped up. For half the price and finally having a "complete" Noveske rifle (with an old-school upper), I figured why not. My other Noveske lower is on my MK12, which seemed fitting given it's laser beam shooting ability.

I am fighting the urge to buy one of those Noveske Gen 1 Chainsaws... UW, from the looks of your pic, i can't see what would make it a Chainsaw. What does the rest of it look like? Gatordev, how's yours look? I don't mind minor things, but i've seen some really ugly Chainsaw parts. And at $165, they're not exactly priced like blems.

Not sure if ours had the same defects, but I also got one. Mine just had some slight wear on the rear lug area looked like it had been mated to an upper at some point and then taken off, other than that flawless.

I have a few chainsaws that I have yet to find the defects on. And I have a non chainsaw gen 1 that had a really poor anodizing job done on it.

That sort of stuff i can live with. The Chainsaw parts i've purchased in the past looked just about flawless, save for one Gen 2 with anodizing that's grey-ish green, and the wear and tear from general use makes whatever caused them to be labeled a Chainsaw irrelevant. But i've seen some Chainsaw parts with anything from half a Noveske Iron X laser engraved (the other half being on the upper it was assembled with originally) to giant logos laser engraved on the right side of the mag well. That, i don't want lol.

A little bit of a configuration change. Started working some simple drills today and it's not bad.

I'm going to say the anodizing is off.

In other words, it's just like my non-chainsaw lower then. [BD]

I don't usually pay attention to the anodizing, unless you can see multiple different shades within the lower/upper. I looked through RA's entire bin for the chainsaw I wanted, and most of them had anodizing issues. Some had some scratches, others looked perfect, but the roll marks weren't very deep. I usually pick blems that have anodizing issues as I won't notice them with some use.

Picked up my Chainsaw yesterday. Roll marks were deep, but there were several very noticeable (but small) scratches on the finish. I got over it about 3 seconds after picking up the lower.
