Picked up my Chainsaw yesterday. Roll marks were deep, but there were several very noticeable (but small) scratches on the finish. I got over it about 3 seconds after picking up the lower.

This is how my Gen 3 nonchainsaw is exactly.

No not dummy marks from a trigger pin install gone bad either ;P

Several other smaller ones like this on the back. But it doesn't bother me, very superficial

I'm going to say the anodizing is off.

After mating the lower with an upper I would agree that the anodizing is a bit funky. My roll marks seem okay though, still very minor issues overall.

I don't usually pay attention to the anodizing, unless you can see multiple different shades within the lower/upper. I looked through RA's entire bin for the chainsaw I wanted, and most of them had anodizing issues. Some had some scratches, others looked perfect, but the roll marks weren't very deep. I usually pick blems that have anodizing issues as I won't notice them with some use.

Scratches and defects in the anodizing don't bother me in the least. If they were perfect, they'd look worse than the blems after a few trips to the range.

There are pros and cons to each of the most common bipods. The Accutac deploys like a Sako TRG bipod. Makes it pretty easy. No buttons to push. Just pull away from the pivot point on the main leg and rotate. When you let go it snaps back into place and engages the detent slots. I like this design. It means you can deploy or stow it from different positions, unlike an Atlas, where it's easy to access one side, but you almost have to swap your rifle to your other hand to reach the opposite side. The friction on the legs while moving them is smooth but not sloppy. I find the Atlas way too stiff.

Roll is adjusted by a knob on the underside. You can adjust the drag so it's not floppy but not too stiff. Again, nicely done as compared to the Atlas, which is so freaking stiff it's actually somewhat difficult to get it level.

One advantage the Atlas has is the ability to pitch, yaw, and roll. This is negated by the stiffness of the ball head. Maybe it's just my sample, though.

It's interesting to note that on the Precision Rifle Series the Harris dominates, followed by a small number of Atlas users. Probably because the harris is super easy to deploy and stow.

Leg length adjustment is kind of neat on the Accutac. You pull down on the leg tips to extend them. Then press the release to have the leg snap all the way back up. I'm not sure how useful that actually is. Would depend on what you're doing with it.

Biggest drawback of the Accutac is how far below the mounting interface the pivot point is. When the bipod legs are stowed, the whole thing hangs waaaaaay below the handguard.

I've never played with any bipods so my complaints are purely aesthetic.

Slippers touched on one, the low mounting. The other is the almost insect like/futuristic look of the legs.

My Atlas has the exact opposite problem. I think mine is a V7 or V8 (2010), but I find mine tilts too easily no matter how much I crank down on the knob. I've wondered if it was my specific unit, and it sounds like there's some variation between them all. Maybe we should trade.

While I still use my Atlas all the time, this was a reason why I have a BRM-S (or 2) with a Pod-Loc on my precision guns.

Some of that was fixed with the newer PSR version. Frankly though, if you look at all the top competitors, the Harris BRMS 6-9 with a podloc is still the top dog for good reason.

I have an accutac(given to me) as well as a harris (and I've owned an Atlas, but I sold it), and one of its biggest downfalls is how big it is. It also sits real high. Most guys prefer the legs to pop out as opposed to having to pull them down, because we're trying to deploy them quickly, especially in matches. The other thing is the accutac doesn't have as much length adjustment, and the tighten knob much like the Atlas is difficult to really tighten down. I need to be able to adjust as well for cant, and quickly. The podloc allows for that.

Because the PRS is my stomping grounds, I know about a unique project in the works, that if they get a few issues worked out, it will be amazing on a whole different level. Imagine a Harris and an Atlas combined, but each keeping the best features such as spring legs, podloc, forward cant, etc. It will also have the ability to use quick disconnect legs for leg extensions, and a tripod adapter that will make using a tripod infinitely better.

I got this rifle from Rainier Arms. I think i got the last one they had when i bought it last year. Been OOS ever since. ROG Tactical had just the uppers in stock a while back (i think the latest batch had Silencerco muzzle devices), but again, OOS now. If you want want, I'd email Mike at ROG Tactical and see if he can order one for you, or at the very least put you on the wait list for one.

Thanks bro. I'll admit once I built the 12.5 this one rarely gets shot anymore, and the 14.5 thunder ranch clone only has 1-2 outings.

The 12.5 and shorter uppers we've got just handle so beautifully it's hard to go back to full length rifles

Deadwing
23 November 2015, 19:45
The shorties are a hoot for sure. I've got a 7.5" upper with a KX5 on the end of t that serves no practical purpose. It throws one hell of a fire ball though. [BD]

Oh I'll add one to the collection, no doubts. The only question is when.. IMHO the 10.5 switch NQR is by far their best upper.

Rog had the factory 10.5 chf barrels with pinned sb's for sale a few months back, but I knew it'd be next to impossible to find a NQR to match it, and honestly I thought a NSR 7 would look goofy behind it.

I've never shot a switchblock upper, in your opinion how much of a difference is there shooting suppressed then vs one of your regular uppers?

Hopefully I don't have gas issues as I just installed the Geissele gas block that came with the rail and didn't go with the SLR adjustable as I had originally planned.

The Geissele barrel nut installation is ridiculously easy though, probably my favorite design so far.

It's nice, similar to my Mega Ambi, but has the QD sockets and the integrated ambi magazine release which I really like. The finish quality is probably the nicest I have seen on any receiver, almost has a brushed look to it.

I have yet to run it really hard, but the idea is to eventually suppress it and hunt with it.

If you have any other barrels to be dimpled and/or pinned the tools from BRD engineering are excellent values.

The dimple tool is extremely easy to use and I've found it to be precise. Just line up the gas port with the pin, snug down the clamp and perfectly placed dimples every time. I wanna say they're fairly cheap too.
