Do you like the mro? I've read mixed reviews about there being some magnification and distortion. Some are seeing it and some aren't. I've been debating on one for the bedside gun I'm going to build.

The price is definitely right. I just put a T2 on my patrol rifle and that was a tough amount to swallow. Can't afford to have 3 of them lol

Nice looking rifle. Is that the PWS FSC? I have on on a .308 and love it. What do you think on the 556?

Thanks!

Yes, PWS FSC 556, and I've been very happy with it - have tried a lot of other stuff - all around, for what I expect from a combo device, others have subjectively performed as well, but none outclassed it - so I've stuck with it for quite some time.

Thanks - had to hand cut the stencils and wanted to stick to 3 colors so.. Plus there's something about the crisp color breaks of woodland that I just love. I like that it's "old school" now as well. Throwback camo ;-)

Now I'm really impressed. Dura coat, cerakote, rattle can? How'd you manage to cut stencils for it and what did you use? It turned out excellent, I thought it was professionally done

Cerakote - I'd venture to say I'm just shy of professional - although I've pretty much cut off doing customer work to focus on part design. My Cerakote equipment is all DIY level stuff, HF blast cab, small compressor, their budget recommended gun, a smoker converted to an oven, etc. Nothing that anybody that has attention to detail can't duplicate.

For stencils - since I never got myself a nice plotter yet, what I did was the painters tape on wax paper trick.

Blue painters tape (wide) on both sides of a piece of wax paper, slightly overlapping, and it helps to run each side in opposite directions.

Then draw your pattern pieces out by hand on the tape.

Cut them out with scissors for the large stuff, or get fancy and use an exacto knife for small corners ( I didn't on this one).

Peel one side of tape off at a time from the wax paper, and for each feature you get two "stencils"

Order was - black base coat, smallest stencils, then brown, larger, then FDE, and finally very large stencils placed sparingly for OD green - leaving all the previous in place throughout the process.

The hardest part was doing the stock at the same time with just one oven, as the final cure temps are different, and it's cold in my new backyard shop ;-)

Dang I was hoping you were gonna say you knocked it out in an hour with rattle can and Saran Wrap lol. Give me the notion a non artist like myself could duplicate it... But no I think I'll leave it to the pro and semi pros lol. It turned out excellent, and rivals what I've seen from some of the "big shops". If you ever feel like taking on customers again let me know. I'd love to get one of my rifles done in woodland like that.

If I do - I will announce it here, but not without being a site sponsor first. I'm just here right now as an enthusiast and to offer any advice and help within my lane. I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression that I'm trying to promote for free.

Well done. Good work. Reminds me of the MERDC camo pattern the military applied to vehicles in the 70's and 80's before the current NATO tri-color scheme

I'm catching that it's super powerful - had a shot I took yesterday, but an extreme temp swing between camera in vehicle and unseasonably warm day fogged the mirrors - but I really loved the shot.

A few sliders in lightroom and the "haze" was completely gun - over to PS to add some layers and desaturate the wood.. Two days ago I would have scrapped what became:

http://www.km3solutions.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/woodland_camo_manticore_transformer.jpg

So yeah, I'm pretty much sold. Now to watch more of these tutorials and try to wrap my mind around all of these features.

Well if you really want to do it right, Adobe Creative Suite is just the tip of the iceberg, then there's the cutting plotter you'd obviously need to turn out a professional product; something like this:

https://page.esko.com/kongsberg-na-2015/kongsberg-cutting-plotter-na.html?Attribution+campaign=NA+-+Kongsberg+-+General&Attribution+source=Google&Attribution+medium=ppc&Attribution+keyword=%2Bcutter%20%2Bplotter&gclid=CjwKEAiAy7SzBRD_lv7quOnr6XUSJAAOLkW6jx3ufsN0 s6SRTLUzR909jZyqKQwWoTVUo5Y1s19KnhoCUZHw_wcB

Or you can go to blick's get some frisket and a box of #11 X-acto blades and go like hell!

Blick's is just fine :-) - no plotter or Creative Suite used on any of my Cerakote - not that I someday won't, but it's not needed for an incredible turnout. Lots of famous airbrushing jobs done long before Adobe or small enterprise/consumer plotters.

Yep. OAL is good to go. It's specifically set up that way until I SBR it, for my wife who has a scaphoid injury that dictates the "broomstick" grip style. The rest of the parts were either collected by her over the years or I just happened to have them laying around.

Never really understood that whole Firearm vs Pistol thing. Most of my SBR's are 27" with 10.5" Barrels, so some silly regulation about VFG's on guns under 26" make no sense to me, but then again the entire NFA thing makes no sense to me in present day.

I agree it's a stupid mess. My ATF IO guy has seen it and didn't give it a second glance so :-)

Plus it's some throw levers away from no VFG - and that's a whole other mess, to make legal non-sbr length, you have to perm attach the muzzle device so you can't remove it with hand tools, yet the barrel can be removed with hand tools on most builds, not to mention quick change barrels. If everybody could afford to push the limits and tie up the court system with NFA fights the ridiculous nature of the "definitions" would probably see most overturned.

No tabs for the RMR mount. I like the scope, but the killflash isn't exactly my favorite. It's basically held in place by a (thick) black rubber band that goes around the base of the scope.

Fortunately I still had a Troy Ambi that fit and functioned perfectly. I just need sights and eventually an optic. Aimpoint Pro (Probably)

Totally diggin that(and I agree the color pops more, which means alot since we all know I try to turn everything B&W [BD]). You gotta figure out though how to lighten them up for FB and IG if you can dude. I had the same problem because I like low lighting, but on mobile devices they're extremely hard to see.

F#%king exactly! And at the same angle from corner to corner. Exactly...

It's because of exactly what you said, mobile devices - flipping quickly through IG for instance, a corner to corner angle shot at a full 1:1 crop will grab the eye, add in the brighter color profile from the phone "HDR" and those images pop more.

The last picture I posted in the vs thread has steady IG traction, and I hate it. Looks good on small screen quickly though, I guess.

The camo gun dark pictures against the case you guys seemed to like. FB liked them well enough, IG was eh. I can barely make the gun out on my default screen setting on my phone.

For you professionals, might want to think about that as you shoot and process, maybe edit an IG specific crop and levels.

They are literally the best tactical pants I've ever worn. I wore them for a week straight (washed inside out a few times before, during and after, of course) and they are awesome. Lots of pockets, lots of everything.

Sort of like spandex pants, except for dudes, and they are loose, buy a side up than you normally do and if you need to hem the ends for a proper fit.

For my shooting, I don't usually extend the stock, so the more compact the better. The SL-K is about 1/2 shorter than the CTR I was using. The stock is very compact, and I really like it, as I've been warming up to the SL line in general.

For my shooting, I don't usually extend the stock, so the more compact the better. The SL-K is about 1/2 shorter than the CTR I was using. The stock is very compact, and I really like it, as I've been warming up to the SL line in general.

Sooo...when it comes to "finishing the deal," you're all for short and stout. Those of us that are more "extended" and "proud" just can't deal with that. Looks like more B5 SOPMOD for me (or ACS when appropriate).

Thanks UW. I will be running the A5 system (buffer tube is about a half inch longer) so if the stock is actually shorter, this is definitely worth a look-see.

Please elaborate. I have eFiled two lowers. Have a Battlelink Minimalist for one, looking at options for the second. Would like to know why you think this one is best for an SBR.

I'm personally not a fan of the minimalist stock. If you're running on a bench it may not be an issue, but I've found that it snags on things when doing drills. For a really compact stock, it costs some money, but LWRC's compact stock is a great space and weight saver

I have heard that from others as well. Only one or two have said its not a problem. I haven't opened the package yet. May have to reconsider. Can always "dump" it for another option. I have two LWRC rifles, one an SBR; will have to revisit their stock options. Stamps won't be here for awhile, so I have time to think this through. I appreciate your input.

Thanks! Crappy pic though!

At the time, it was an Innovative Arms WAR upper & 5.56 suppressor, Rainier Arms Match barrel w/ Rainier/Samson Evo 12.5" rail, TA11 ACOG and KAC buis, locally made billet lower, Magpul furniture, Gieselle SSA-E trigger and Harris 6-9 bipod.

The suppressor, stock, buis and bipod have gone to another rifle, that one has been painted, new can, stock, etc:

Same here. That, and a Winchester Model 12 16ga with a push button safety. Popping that button became instinct as a part of shouldering or lowering the weapon. I'm a bit curious about how it would feel on an AR.

It is very simple to do. I sprayed a base layer of tan then let it dry. Then just took something similar to a sea sponge and sponged on all the other colors. You can spray some stripes of the other colors then sponge on the rest too. It's easy and fun to do. Maybe I'll try and do a tutorial video sometime.

I've seen Stick do similar patterns with some brighter colors and he uses cotton balls I think.

The SD-C and SD3G are very different triggers. The SD-C is essentially an SSA with a flat bow. Same take-up, same wall, same break, same reset. If you like the SSA and you like flat bow triggers, you'll love the SD-C. It's become my favorite. The SD3G is very different, but damn, what a trigger. It's super fast, take-up is smooth and short, and the break comes without warning. No wall, no stacking, just a silky smooth take-up then... BANG. You get used to where the shot will break, but the trigger doesn't give you any feedback as to when the break is about to come. It's like nothing else i've ever shot before, from Geissele or anyone else. Damn fun to shoot.

I've always been a diehard Noveske fan, but SMOS will probably get most of my business from now on. Nothing against Noveske, SMOS is just more affordable for me. My Noveske upper is paired with a Rock River lower which I've been meaning to replace with a Gen 3 lower, but will probably end up getting another SMOS lower instead. I just can't justify spending $100 more for a logo.

Regarding the light box, I just followed the advice of the guys in the "How To - Photography" thread in the Members Feedback section and got some 1" PVC and some work lights from Home Depot. It was definitely worth the investment.

My "throw around" gun is a rifle i built from Noveske parts (Chainsaw Gen 2 lower/MUR upper, 15" NSR, 16" stainless barrel). That's the rifle with the SD-3G in it. I don't abuse any of my weapons, but i show this one no mercy lol.

Haha.. thanks rifle doesn't hold a candle to the couple noveske goodies you and a few others have posted..:P....but ya that rifle has actually been a slight bastard child..won't get into it..But I'd love to one day swap out the upperfor a noveske one and swap out the bolt..but then again it's just a scraped up chainsaw lower and have thought about painting it up also..I never can decide

A hand written note really speaks volumes about a company.

I got one from a suppressor company once along with a couple freebie items. Really nice gesture and makes you feel good about supporting them like they actually care about who's buying their stuff, not just watching the bank account grow

I agree it's such a simple gesture that really makes a difference.

I got a hand written note from vortex. That alone will bring me back to them time and time again.

That Parallax looks good on that rifle, I was skeptical about the long length, but you nailed it. Nice rattle can job too. You seem to have a skill for that!

Thanks to WEVO and the Veterans Day giveaway, the Parallax rail I received helped me decide what direction to take with this project. I knew I wanted to build a precision AR, and I always liked the look of 15" rails on 16" rifles, so I went for it. For the record, a 17.5" rail and an 18" barrel will work, but just the threads were peeking out of the end! As far as the rattle cans go, I like the worn look that only a well used rifle has. I've had a little practice at blending the colors so it doesn't have sharp contrasts between colors...it just sort of blends together.

How's that MRO with a magnifier work for you? Nice looking rifle BTW.

Thanks!

It works well, though the dot is right above the TLR1s which isn't a big issues its just annoying that it blocks the view. I'll probably end up moving the light or offsetting it with an arisaka defense angle mount, but otherwise the MRO is great.

Thanks! And dooooo ittttt! I love mine. Ideally, if I could only have three ARs, they'd be two I currently have (16" Recce-ish and this 18" SPR-ish), and I'd ditch the 10.5" I have for a 12.5" with a Griffin M4SDII/K, set up like a lightweight CQB rig. I'd sell the other ones I have to make this "trifecta" if I had to
