I've drank a little Maker's Mark in my lifetime. Not bad for "beginners" and pogues. I'll give you that much and not an inch more:P

Guess someday we'll have to get together and just find out which is which.

Clearly neither of you have tried the Angel's Envy port barrel finished bourbon. Best I've ever tasted.

I'm more of a scotch drinker myself, but I'm a fan of anything whisky (or whiskey) and have been trying more bourbons lately. Willett Pot Still Reserve is a favorite bourbon of mine, as are other Willett bourbons I've had. I also enjoy Blanton's. I'll usually use Maker's Mark for mixed drinks requiring bourbon. I mix a pretty mean Manhattan. It's mostly Marker's with a dash of bitters, the I wave the bottle of sweet vermouth over the glass. [BD]

I rarely drink anymore. Not that I don't like to.. But when I was younger I drank to excess. Go figure but I've got an addictive personality [BD] When my kids were born I basically gave it up.

Maker's is made 15 miles away though, so I end up taking the factory tour with family and friends a couple times a year. You can buy a bottle while your there and hand dip the wax yourself so we've ended up with quite a collection. The "cask strength" in the photo is a limited run they did last year.

I can't drink like I used to when I was younger. It's quality over quantity for me these days. I'd love to do the distillery tour. And I'm generally a fan of cask strength bottlings, regardless of who's name is on the label.

I was finally able to get a glimpse of the piebald deer that I was talking about before. She's like a ghost in the woods around here, especially with snow on the ground. She's also a LOT more skittish than the other deer, so getting close is difficult to say the least. Also, when I saw her the sun was directly in front of me which didn't help at all. I still haven't come up with a longer lens, so I'm shooting it with the 18-55 and having to crop a lot. I downloaded Picasa to edit pics with and it seems pretty neat. Here are a couple of the better shots I ended up getting:

I finally got a shot at the Wrinkle Ranch Hawk. Brenda says, "Hawk is in the neighbor's tree!". Snatch the camera off the tripod (didn't think I would have time to adjust it too), grabbed the 100-400, spun a couple of dials hoping to get the shot, elbows on the roof of her car, and got one shot before the crows ran him off. Looks like the tree is more in focus than the bird, but I'll settle for this for now. Tree is about 60 feet tall, and three houses down the street.

I only drove it a couple of times, so I really couldn't say yet what kind of mileage it gets. I tell you what though, you never realize how much turbo lag there is on the 3.0 engines until you step into that V8.

Speaking of a F22, wifey just ordered one. Should be here in May. I may have led her to believe there is no such thing as a 228 so she "had" to get the M 235i. Maybe I'll even get to drive it once in awhile. [BD]

If you're considering another 3 Series, don't be so fast to give up that E46. I think the E46 is the quintessential 3 Series. I wish I had kept my 2005 with the ZHP package. They are hard to find, well hard to find not roached out with super high miles.

I had an E90, and I never enjoyed that car. If you are fine with the size of the E46, get yourself a F22 as well.

I would absolutely love to have ZHP in Imola Red. I love those things. I came REAL close to buying one last year, but decided to save my pennies. I think the E46 will always be my favorite, too. If I could have anything, I would love an F80 or F82. Maybe some day [BD] What didn't you like about your E90?

I think the biggest problems with newer BMW's starting with the E90's are... they are getting bigger, and IMHO way too big and heavy. When I think of BMW and the "Ultimate Driving Machine" I think of the E46 and E39. They handled better and were the perfect size.

I've seen some nice looking Imola Red ZHP's around here, but they are 4 DR's. My dream would be to find a minty 2005ish CSL, or I'd even settle for a 2006 Competition Package. This is really why we decided to get an F22 vs pulling the trigger on a F80/82 M3/M4. Then again, I probably can't say much. I'm driving an E70 right now, so it lacks handling and raw speed... but it's paid for, so I'm in no rush to swap it out. I still occasionally look to see what's out there for E46 M3's. Maybe I'll still pick one up to tune a little, and have fun with. I can still work on the maintenance stuff myself to keep the costs down.

I think we need our own BMW thread. [:D]

I think you're right! I see what you're saying, though. They definitely are getting bigger. If you ever want to... you know... get rid of that E70... you know, just kind of... give it away... I'd be happy to fly out there, take it off your hands, and drive it back to Indiana. You wouldn't have to worry about selling it or trading it or anything... No hassle. LOL [BD]

I hate you. A silver M235i is what I have my eyes on. I'm amazed at how little extra the M2 costs, but after reading some reviews, I'm thinking it's not worth having to live with that car day to day. Sounds like it's not a quiet cabin, in part to save weight, as well as the modified exhaust through the sound system. Sure is sexy though.

I'm also blown away at how complete the M235i is with options. The only two things that aren't standard are the paint and the heated seats.

I was very close to buying a ZHP E46 right as they were going away. I just couldn't buy a 7+ year old design and not feel like it was a smart purchase. I agree about the E46 being the right size, which is why the F22 seems so perfect. It's basically an inch or so of the dimensions of the E46.

I think the biggest problems with newer BMW's starting with the E90's are... they are getting bigger, and IMHO way too big and heavy. When I think of BMW and the "Ultimate Driving Machine" I think of the E46 and E39. They handled better and were the perfect size.

A huge complaint from me, as well. The cars just keep getting bigger. I can't speak to the handling of an E46, but I've done track stuff with an E90 and an E92M. Both were impressive, and the improved suspension on the E90 really made the thing solid. That N52 engine is bullet proof (I have it in my E85). But at the end of the day, the E90 just didn't blow my skirt up because of its size.

All that said, the E92M was pretty damn impressive, and that was while also driving a E60M on the same track.

I think we need our own BMW thread. [:D]

There were fish but the second I dipped the gopro in they took off, I waited for about 15 minutes to see if they would come back. They wanted no part in it.

No, that's this badass. The image doesn't show it, but he had a notched ear. I once watched him fight a cat and tear out its throat before dragging it to a nearby tree and burying it in a shallow hole which he covered with pine needles.
Not many people can say their cat taught them how to hide bodies.

Me too. But most of the places I'd want to go, I wouldn't venture into without body armor and OCing a rifle and a sidearm.
Having been the target of attempted carjacking and a shooting in public places in that area make think twice about visiting the abandoned places.

Funny (okay not REALLY funny) that you say that. I've been watching for a fairly secluded area of the Rouge that I can get down into for some super cool shots of me or someone I can convince to come with me walking down the Rouge alone with armor and a slung rifle. Sort of EOTWAWKI or post apocalyptic style shots.

Yes ... admittedly - I've still never OC'ed the chip. Never had a need to (yet); haven't had any really resource intensive games - though BF1 will probably change that.

Nice and clean. I like it. Don't know if I could ever bring myself to bear, using water coolant - scares the derth out of me that it'd somehow leak out and fk up my system. Plus that and having to restock the coolant every so often.

ASUS does make some nice cards. Which are you running? I guess I'm kinda behind the curve, I have a GTX 560 ... back when that was all that was need to run BF3 decently well [BD]

Dumb question from someone who's never done water cooling either: if it's a closed-loop system, where does the coolant go that it needs to be replaced?

You can't replace it. I've been running my closed loop for almost 4 years and it still runs as cool today as it did new. When temps start climbing then I'll replace the system.

Coolant evaporates through the tubing. I used to run a huge water-cooled rig and I'd only top it off every 3 or 4 months. Depends mostly on the quality of tubing you use. Made my own coolant too - 50/50 water & cheap anti-freeze plus an oz or so of bleach to keep it sanitized.

Nice setups on the PCs!

I used to get enjoyment out of PC building/tweaking. But talk about a money pit! Guns are the same way, but at least they don't depreciate like a new car being driven off the lot.

I've relegated myself to refurbished computers that I replace every other year. This is mostly due to the fact I don't have time for gaming, and web surfing/emails aren't intensive applications.

Same exact MO here. Check out WOOT.com. They sell refurbed Dell and HP in standard form factors for hella good prices. I kill a laptop a year on the road, so I started hitting them up. I usually pay $400 for a $1,500+ envy lappy on HP's site. The merch comes factory new with all protective coverings, packaging, etc without the stupid laptop prices. They do MAC stuff too, but it's proportionately higher in price, and doesn't last any longer for me.

Great Shot!

Flight Engineer's station on a B-17G. Rode in that one twice and the hair stood up the whole time. I had two great uncles that piloted them in WW II, and both made it back safe. Arguably the best plane made in terms of sustainable damage. The crazy thing is this is made for young people. It's not real easy to climb around in, and getting to the tail and into the ball turret is impossible if you're much over 5'-5"! They carry spares and luggage for the crew in the tail, but I could easily tell I couldn't make it past the landing gear structure!

Why that's totally not gender neutral.

While I was instructing in T-34s (https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0ahUKEwi10MWC3I7NAhUDXR4KHQj9BE4QFggdMAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FBeechc raft_T-34_Mentor&usg=AFQjCNFbaRioMbOJGMo_su7o5c46DVxEkQ&sig2=GyjJb3BWX0Adl7EGC8X-JA), we had something very much like this. And of course when it comes to flying, there's always bathroom-related tales told.

The rumor was that an instructor was flying with a female stud in the front. She apparently really had to pee, so she said she was going to use the tube. The IP was interested in how this was going to work, and the student has mirrors right in front of them so you can look at one another. Apparently as she was getting "situated," she looked up, and flipped the mirrors up so the instructor couldn't see anything. And thus, the mystery of her success was lost to the ages. But apparently she hit her target and they continued training.

By the way, there is an adapter, but I never knew anyone who actually had one.

Why that's totally not gender neutral.

Can't think of any females that flew in these for the 1950 or later. Not even to shuttle across the Atlantic. Most of them arrived via their flight crews right out of flight school.

Did you see Officer Murphy and/or Clarence Boddicker hanging around? And let's not forget Emil...may he rest in peace (or pieces).

Was gonna say ... every "B" movie I've seen, that's where the light sensitive zombies hang out. Hope you were packin' heavy.

And, nice images. First one kinda speaks to me. Not sure what it is, but I like it.

We did see some dudes and avoided them.
I was rocking 52 rounds of 9mm and Peter had some more.

If my AK had come back from DA in time I'd have had that loaded up with me too, because.

There is something profound about treading the ruins of man's ambition. In some ways it felt like seeing a modern Babel.

We were sufficiently armed for where we ventured, but I'd like to get a four man group together and push a lot deeper.

Already looking forward to it.

There are tons of hipsters taking shots all over in that place including the roof.

If hipsters can do it....

I was thinking more from Terminator Salvation, where Kyle Reese sets a trap for the T600.

Yeah, but it's Detroit! Home of OCP, "making products for virtually every consumer need."

Pyzik's next task is to find a 6000 SUX. Because bigger IS better.

Another deployment pic, heading home from San Diego back to Hawaii. *Note...ironically almost all of our Ops were actually EastPac and not the Carib side. Oh well, still looks cool...and was relevant at the time, due to the movie.

Were the VF-213's flying off the Abraham Lincoln back then?

Sad they scrapped all the F-14's. I wish Cheney had pushed for the ASF-14 project. Too bad in typical government fashion they cheapened out.

Since that bird is the show-bird (or CAG bird), it says "USS Kitty Hawk." According to Wikipedia (yeah, I know), it looks like they moved from Lincoln to Kitty Hawk before transitioning to the D model.

The 1993 deployment saw VF-213 as the sole F-14 squadron as the air wing supported Operation Southern Watch and Operation Restore Hope. Another deployment followed on board the Lincoln for the 1995 cruise, supporting OSW once again. CVW-11 switched to the USS Kitty Hawk for a 1997 cruise, another OSW deployment and supporting United Nations Security Council Resolution 986, the Oil for Food program. After the 1997 cruise, CVW-11 switched to the USS Carl Vinson and VF-213 transitioned to the F-14D Super Tomcat.

The F-14 was an impressive machine, especially once they got new motors, but it was just too expensive to operate. At the end of the day, that's what killed it. Cost per flight hour is the name of the game, even nowadays, no matter who is in the White House.

So who cares how much the F-35 costs to develop, it's all about flight hour costs. [:D]

Cool photo as usual gator. You truly get to play with the biggest toys in the box.

There's no denying it, acquisition has been a giant goat rope for many years, even beyond the F-35. And trust me, it's a complaint within the community, as well. When I was in flight school, I was told that by my second tour, I would be flying the aircraft that I currently fly now. But it took another 11 years for that to happen. Same thing happened when I was a student and we were told that if we came back as an instructor, we'd be flying the new version of the fixed-wing trainer. Well, 7 years later, when I left as an IP, it still wasn't there. So yeah, I get it.

Just understand that what the press likes to report doesn't necessarily match reality, when it comes to the understanding of getting an air frame operational.

I've had a very fortunate career, especially having been in the cockpit the whole time. So I always try and keep that in mind, even when admin minutia rears its ugly head!

I hear you. I have no doubt that R&D + Testing/Evaluation time/money is on a scale I can't even imagine when it comes to a fighter plane. That's why people are always stealing our shit. Makes me sick to see the Chinese accelerate their R&D on our backs.

The R&D costs of the F-22 are worth it as long as you keep the final version in sight. Super cruise and 17:1 air superiority alone offset a lot of the up-front cost. The media only sees dollars; they aren't looking out for pilot safety, air dominance or any of the things they aren't told to see.

We're talking about the JSF F-35 though. [:D]
