I'm sitting here thinking... it would be a shame if my boy had no interest in firearms when he gets older. I would have loved it if my old man gave me 60+ NFA items. [:D]

I like traditions, and I have done something similar with my own family (and will when my kids graduate college).

The issue I've seen, specifically with Rolex, which is slowly start to reach brands like AP (Audemars Piguet). The issue is that when you save up some cash, spend it on a nice genuine sub, the first thing people will ask is "is that real?" This is pretty exclusive to Rolex, yes being one of the biggest and best known watch brands in the world may provide such issues, it is not exactly applicable to other companies. There are dozens of other brands which have a better in-house movement development, brand recognition, and don't come with the stigma which Rolex seems to have associated with it.

Just my opinion on the matter, I see this not getting better, only worse as times goes on to a point where Rolex will be forced to address it in some way. Maybe a rebranding of their image or something to dissociate themselves from the current stigma associated with it.

Make sure you have that on lock. My great uncle passed and didn't have much of a plan for his collection and myself and a couple of cousins were devastated. We were all kids and not versed in the NFA thing back in those days and several highly collectible, valuable items went to auction and sold relatively locally for a pittance. I'd have at least liked for my Great Aunt to have seen a tidy profit, but he was the major sportsman, travelling to hunt, ex-mil and he had one hell of a collection of militaria as well. The rest of us were learning, but he didn't prep us enough in time.

I've wanted a Navihawk or a Nighthawk for a while now. I stumbled on this Skyhawk for the right price and was close enough so I picked it up.

Picked up this cheap Vostok for when I'm feeling that Kalashlife.

My modest watch collection. I prefer Automatics and but really like my quart Luminox for everyday wear. Can wear it to the beach, the range, Disney World and it will take a good beating while being lightweight and functional.

My favorite watch brand would have to be Orient. In reality they are technically owned by Seiko, but operate completely independent from the parent company.
They don't have much of a following stateside with there being little distribution network here, but they make high quality watches at very affordable prices. Like Rolex, they are all produced in house, and they make all their own automatic movements. The two watches on the ends are Orient watches and they are both Automatics. Neither of them set me back even $150 and they are both automatics with mineral crystals.

Also, for consideration...Microbrands. There are some very cool microbrands out there that build limited runs of basically custom watches. Its not everybody's cup of tea as many microbrands don't stick around for a long time but you can get some really unique designs with decent specs for a little amount of money. A good micro that has been around for a while is Steinhart. The second watch from the left in the picture is a Steinhart Ocean 1 Vintage Military. Its a Swiss Made ETA 2824 with sapphire crystal (with a nice stainless steel bracelet not picture since I prefer straps). $400 bucks which included shipping from Germany after exchange rate.

I like them all for different reasons. Next on my list is another Orient since I need a dress watch and the Bambino will fit that bill nicely.

Not saying any of these options fit what you need, just putting out what I have and what I like. I would love to own a Rolex one day...but for now I like having extra ammo on hand [BD]
