1/16, 3/32, 1/8/ 5/32 Roll Pin Punches
1/16, 3/32, 1/8 flat pin punches
Roll Pin Holder / Starter set
5/64 Gas Tube Punch
Bolt Catch Shaved Punch ( used mainly during dis-assembly )
Regular nail set punch from hardware store for tapered pins on fixed front sight base.

You don't need the Bolt Catch Shaved Punch to install the bolt catch roll pin, but it sure helps.

True, but it really helps out with not marring up your lower.

Come to the "thrifty" side. [BD] I lay a triple folded piece of paper on the receiver.

OP, pick yourself up something like this (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004SY07HU/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004SY07HU&linkCode=as2&tag=ezmo05-20) if your not against the idea of owning something you know won't last forever. It's not the highest of quality, but mine has lasted through five lower receivers thus far and still has plenty of life.

Hello,

You're always better off buying the right tool for the job - here's the best quality bolt catch tool

This is all I have ever needed:

Small punch on top is for gas tube roll pins, the other two came in a Riflegear lower receiver builder's kit - masking tape on the lower receiver is a good idea when installing the bolt catch roll pin.

Occasionally I have needed a fourth punch for the forward assist roll pin, but it's pretty rare that I start out with a completely stripped upper receiver.

I realize the OP had a different question but here's a tip: I have used a set of generic Channellocks to set nearly every pin except for the gas block close to final depth. I wrap the jaws very well with tape, and then set them to fit the width of roll pin height and part and gently squeeze the pins in. I then finish them off with dedicated roll pin punches. You have to play a bit with the angle of the jaws and their relation to the part but once you get the hang of it it works well.
