Well this is interesting. Magpul just released a 40-round magazine:

Maybe I'll get a couple in CO through their airlift program before time runs out ...

They are listed under the Special Purpose tab.

Because 40 rounds is 33.33% better than a 30 rounder. [:D]

Anyone going to try to run these exclusively on their AR15 platform? Or do you guys see this as more of a supplement your current magazine stash, closer to the novelty area?

Although I'm sure I'll end up with a few of these 40 rounders, I don't see them as a replacement for my 30s. To me the standard 30 round magazine is just right for most applications.

This may have been developed as an outright middle finger to CO's (and to a greater extent other state's) impending laws, but it's as much a realistic supplement as the 60 round magazines from Surefire.

The price point is huge. Typical Pmags run $15 or so... (standard)

40 round Pmag @ $20

Surefire 60 rounder @ $160?!
Surefire 100 rounder @ $200!?!?

The 40 round Pmag just makes sense for a little extra bang for your buck!!!!

I would like a couple to supplement and test. A quick "Bing" did not find any available for sale. Will be interesting to see how close to MSRP the retail outlets sell them for.

They might be a little large for typical use - might not fit in existing mag pouches, etc. I might keep one in my HD gun just for a little added firepower ...

And yes I do believe this is a straight up f-u to CO lawmakers and the anti-gunners.

Although, I will probably get some 40 rounds to supplement my magazine supply, I just can't see using these for serious use. No prone shooting with these mags.

I'm definitely grabbing one of these. I agree its not very practical, but nonetheless would be nice to have. I'm sure all the 3 gunners out there will love these. I personally would like one of the smoke translucent mags they were talking about releasing a few years back.

MidwayUSA has these in stock. Limit one per customer. Grabbed one this morning.

The idea is nice, but I've known about these for roughly 3 years.

I've been waiting patiently for these. I thought the idea was scrapped. But much to my surprise when I got the email from magpul the other morning, never been so happy to be wrong.

I want to know what you guys think between this and the Surefire 60 round mag. Seems like the Magpul one looks longer, but the Surefire is more expensive.

You must have gone to the old link for the 40 maglevel pmag. If you google pmag 40 and click on midwayusa it should take you to the new M3 PMAG 40. But they are out of stock now. Check Brownells or DSG Arms. You should be able to use alert me when in stock and they will send you an email notification when you can purchase.
