Long story short I'm chaning out my whole buffer tube/crown/latch assembly. I keep finding 2 torque specs for the crown nut, 40 inch pounds, and 40 foot pounds. Can someone please straighten me out here? Sorry if this is the wrong thread.
Thanks,
FT

According to the latest TM the torque specs are 38 – 42 ft-lb. The inch pounds was a misprint from an older TM.

Personally, I set mine for 30 FT-LB, then stake accordingly.

That sounds more realistic than in/lbs. Thank you both.

I've never used a torque wrench on the castle nut. I just use as much common sense snug as I can get on the nut with a Hammerhead tool. It's short enough that you can't gall the threads, but large enough of a wrench that you're gettting decent torque.

40 Ft Lbs is correct, wow 40 inch pounds would be something!

I don't generally torque castle nuts, you can get 40 ft lbs without a torque wrench. That's snug and then a little more snug. Snug until the lower receiver puts pressure on the mag block and stop. Proper stacking will prevent the nut from loosening.
