Gear Sector (https://www.gearsector.com/) is shipping their Mod 1 Offset mounts for Surefire Scout (http://www.gearsector.com/view/product/217/) and X-Series Lights (http://www.gearsector.com/view/product/221/). What's the difference between the Mod 1 and Mod 0 mounts you ask? Good question, as you can't really tell just merely looking at the mount itself. This is because they left the external dimensions the same. The underside clamping mechanism has been redesigned. The cross bolt does not go through the entire length of the base. "Instead we have milled a solid index that is tapped and threaded to accept a shorter cross bolt which triples the thread engagement." A shot of the underside of the Mod 1 Mount:

Here is Gear Sectors (https://www.gearsector.com/) response on why the change was made, which just shows you the attention to detail:

We have shipped 10's of thousands of these mounts over the past few years. In that time, we have had exactly 3 that came back stripped. Was this due to design deficiency? Not likely. As a matter of fact, I have personally spoken to each of the three people via phone to determine the cause of the failure. In all three cases, the included allen key was not used, but a tool from the customers own tool box that allowed far too much leverage to be applied to the cross bolt. You should never have to apply more than 18-20 inch pounds ( INCH LBS ) of torque to the cross bolt. That said, even one failure is enough to drive us back to the design table to improve a product. Normally, we simply perform an inline improvement without changing the naming convention. Most customer never even realize that they have an improved product over previous runs. However, this time, the change was significant enough that it needed to be distinguished from previous runs since hardware would not be compatible moving forward

Looking good. I have several Gear Sector items and they are very high quality.

Interesting that they're using renders for product shots instead of photographs now.

Gear Sector has been using renders for quite a while.

I like this change to the product line.

I received a mod 1 scout mount this past Saturday. It's very well made, just like the other Gear Sector products I own. I definitely appreciate the new index with increased engagement for the clamping screw, as I had a Thorntail strip out on me (only 3-4 threads actually engage in that particular design).

I was one of the 3 people who stripped theirs out it was totally my fault and gear sector hooked me up with a brand new one. Gear sector has great customer service I can't wait to pick up the new rail.

What are the chances that 1 of the 3 people that caused a redesign saw this post? :)

So did you over torque it like Gear Sector said with your own tool?

Yep over torqued it with a longer wrench. Aluminum vs steel isn't a very good match-up for over torque

Pretty slim I would venture to guess considering how many of these we have sold.

If I didn't know any better, I would swear you just insinuated that I am a liar. [BD]

Never! Besides, if I want to be in line to buy a new Gear Sector rail, why would I do that? [:D]
