Sneak Peak: Geissele SMR MK4 KeyMod Rail

I feel extremely honored that Geissele Automatics (http://geissele.com/) gave AR15NEWS (http://www.ar15news.com/2013/10/01/exclusive-sneak-peek-geissele-smr-mk4-keymod-rail/) and our readers the exclusive first look at the new Geissele SMR MK4 KeyMod rail. The pictures below have not even been shared by Geissele themselves so it shows you how they feel about you guys as the AR15NEWS family. If you are familiar with the Geissele SMR line of modular rail systems you already know these are super solid and built to take any abuse you can throw at them! The new SMR MK4 KeyMod rail looks exactly like the standard MK4 rail with the small rail sections near the front but now features KeyMod mounting slots at the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions. Right now they have only released pictures of the 9.5″ model but do plan on also making 13″ and 15″ models as well.

Currently their are no specs available such as weights, etc. and also no pricing just yet but I would guess that it will be very close to the current MK4 model. The plan is to start production on the new SMR MK4 KeyMod rail in about 2 months, once Geissele has moved into their new facility in North Wales, PA.

I can't help but wonder why they didn't extend the keymods all the way to the end of the rail. Same thing I always wondered about the Fortis Rev, as well. It just seems like the only use for those will be to attach keymod grip panels, because most people probably won't be mounting lights or other gear that far rearward on the sides.

I think people setup plenty of lights on offset mounts at the end of the rail, so the rail is needed.
