Description:

Mountain Series (https://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/browse&category=ar15/m16_barrels_rainierarms_mountainseries)

Rainier Arms Mountain Series™ (https://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/browse&category=ar15/m16_barrels_rainierarms_mountainseries) barrels are our Cold Hammer Forged longest lasting barrels. It is through intense hydraulic pressure applied at opposing angles by carbide steel hammers. During the hammering process, a mandrel is inserted into the bore while the carbide steel hammers shape the barrel around the mandrel creating the chamber, the lands, and the grooves. In addition, the Cold Hammer Forging process creates a defect free bore and the most consistent chamber possible.

Made of Mil Spec M249 Machine Gun barrel steel, with heavy M249 Chrome Lining, (appx. 2 times as thick as an M4 or M16)

It's nice to see that the FNH machine-gun steel barrels are going to be available through other companies and in a SPR (18" barrel with rifle-length gas system) configuration.

In my opinion this is the most interesting option... an 18" with rifle length gas and double chrome lining. Not a lot of others are producting that profile. I'm trying to talk myself out of one.

The 18" is very tempting... I'm in the middle of an SPR-ish build and these barrels definitely seem like a good option, despite not being stainless. I am *this* close to snagging one and seeing how accurate it is with good ammo.

I'm curious as to what led to the choice of prodile.

Any chance of getting a LW profile with .750 at the gas block?

Any chance of getting a LW profile with .750 at the gas block?

Headed down there earlier today to speak Rainier. The plans are for the following:

Government 14.5" Mid
LW 16"
LW 18"

Later on:

10.5"

They haven't decided which LW profile to go with .625 or .750. I'm hoping they go with .750. I went ahead and purchased a 16" and 18"

If Senate Bill 610 passes in Michigan this week. I will be building an SBR and a 10.5" sounds tasty

Keep us posted on how the 18" performs. I'm interested to see how it compares with their other 18" SPR-type barrels.

Rainier Arms is now offering these barrels in 14.5" carbine length and 16" mid-weight. The mid-weight was interesting to me as it claims to have a modified government contour, but still .750 at the gas block. It's also several ounces lighter than the standard 16" they are offering. Here are the specs of the mid-weight:

Specs:

Barrel Material: Chrome Moly Vanadium Steel
Made of Mil Spec M249 Machine Gun barrel steel, with heavy M249 Chrome Lining, (appx. 2 times as thick as an M4 or M16)
Barrel Type: Cold Hammer Forged
Barrel Caliber: 5.56mm NATO Barrel
Barrel Length: 16"
Barrel Profile: Modified Mid Weight Government Profile
Barrel Gas System: Mid Length
Twist Rate: 1:7
Muzzle Thread: 1/2×28 TPI (Threads Per Inch)
Diameter At Gas Block: .750
Bore: Chrome Lined
Chamber: 5.56mm NATO
Weight: 1 lbs 9.8 oz

I think the best barrel profile is still the Noveske N4. ~0.71" OD under the handguards, 0.75" OD at the gas block, 0.68" OD exposed.

In general I thin am average of ~0.70" OD for carbon and ~0.74" for stainless, with a 0.75" gas block, would be ideal.

I'm curious what the specific OD specs are for the mid-weight.
