Bravo Company USA KMR’s patent pending locking mechanism is located high on the rail to offer both a smooth underside and to keep the same tension at high temperature. The two locking bolts are interlocking to each other. The anti-rotation system clips onto the upper receiver then get tighten when the handguard pushes against it.

Close-up of the Bravo Company USA KMR. Its surface finish is not the usual anodized hardcoat but a superior wear & scratch and corrosion resistance multi-layer plasma deposition coating from the aerospace industry. The metal surface has a non-reflective matte surface w/ micro texture feel to it.

The Bravo Company USA KMR has a slim profile but yet it is comfortable to held and still offer a continuous Picatinny top rail and KeyMod slots on 7-sides. The magnesium alloy also conducts less heat than aluminum.

The man who designed the KMR and the KeyMod interface: Eric K of Bravo Company USA. He is the Director of BCM Product Development. He is also the founder and former president of Vltor.

If they can give me plastic covers (which it appears are in one of the pictures) and a Keymod VFG (so I don't have to add a rail to add a VFG), I'll buy one. I'd rather the covers be slotted/vented but if I have to take a band saw to them I can do that.

I've been debating on whether I should buy the KMR or Centurion's CMR. Still trying to figure out if the keymod system is just a fad.

I think probably yes and no.

The military is still using Picatinny. And the truth is, there's nothing wrong with Picatinny, and that Picatinny even has some advantages over Keymod. Then you have some manufacturers that were already headed down a Picatinny-alternative path (like Gear Sector) when keymod came out and they are sticking to their design path and not using Keymod, so Keymod won't become as ubiquitous as it otherwise might.

And the military is still using Picatinny. and frankly would probably be pretty stupid to change, given all the various accessories that they use and own that attach to that system. As a taxpayer, I sure as hell don't want to pay for all new stuff when there's nothing wrong with the old stuff. and if they just phase it out, can you imagine the nightmare of maintaining two standards?

and as long as I still have to attach a picatinny rail to a keymod handguard to get certain funcitonality, it's a non-starter for me. Every point of a attachment is a potential point of failure, and adds unnecessary weight to to the system.

I've read recently that Bravo Company will indeed be coming out with a KeyMod system for their small, angled vertical fore grip to mount to their new KeyMod rail this Spring.

i'm highly anticipating it myself.

I have a question about the rail covers....are they hard polymer or more like a rubber material? I want them, and I want to stipple them.

I see they have a 20" government profile barrel with a 13" rail, looks good! I've been wanting a 20" gov't with iron sights. If they come out with 12" versions of this reail, I'd be very interested (was thinking Fortis REV or Centurion C4 up to this point) as I would want to keep the FSP.

Will a supressor fit under the KMR can anyone give us the internal diameter?

TIA

I played with a preproduction model, and they are polymer.

Looks like they've been on the BCM website (http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-KMR13-Free-Float-Handguard-p/bcm-kmr13.htm) for about a week, so release should be soon. You can at least click the notify me button to be alerted when they come into stock.

Thanks for the heads-up on using the notify button, as I have a pistol (which will eventually get stamped) that I have a temporary rail on. I was about to select different rail option when I stumbled on pre-release information about this design last year, so I had back-burnered the purchase process until these released. Looks like it's time to pay attention again.

BCM has to be pushing hard to get finished within the next week for SHOT.....

Looks like a 10" and 13" so far. I'm hoping for an 11 or 12 too.

They also have some pretty good pictures of the covers up.

I got to handle Stickman's preproduction KMR. Wow... this rail is every bit as good and light as advertised. I will definitely purchase multiple rails for various configurations.

With the ELW (enhanced light wt) barrels and the KMR handguard system I think it's safe to say 2014 is gonna be the year of BCM

I've been waiting for the Lightweight 16" KMR complete uppers to become available. I quit holding my breath and exhaled a while back. I'm giving it a little while longer and then going to say the hell with it, and look for something comparable and available.

They are starting to ship, so it shouldn't be too much longer. Your patience will pay off!

Are these machined so that each Keymod hole is a QD cup?
