Managed to get my hands on the new RA Billet upper/lower combo - of course the first thing I did was freeze it for a photo shoot, I have to say I was a bit worried it would warp if it defrosted unevenly, but thankfully that didn't happen.

Completing the build went quite well with a 16" RA match barrel. I opted to build this with a Centurion CMR Rail the tabs BTW are very snug - which I am happy about, no need to worry about losing zero on the BUIS.

Installing the LPK was a breeze, no tolerance issues, even the Iron Viper Ambi selector went in with no problem.

One improvement I've noticed over the Mega ambi I own that I appreciate - the ambi button has a different tactile feel to it vs the mag release. It takes some getting used to and its a definite conscious effort to not accidentally push the mag release when releasing the bolt. The smoother button on the RA really helps differentiate between the 2.

TracerX,

I think it's time to share the frozen RA pictures that have been floating around FB for all to see here :)

Kick me if I'm stupid, but I'm fairly ignorant of the finer points of photography. Do you actually freeze stuff to photograph it? Alright, if you're all on the inside of an inside joke, go ahead and have a good laugh. From an engineering point of view, how would you "freeze" steel, since it's already in a solid state? Lower the temp to what?

I know that cryogenics is used for "stress relie, grain alignmentf" and hardening of barrels, could that be it?

That is some great work! What were the conditions used to attain the fog effects?

I used dry ice in a pan with warm water…. very simple setup actually.

Rainier should use those photos on their homepage. Very cool, makes me want to start freezing everything in my office.

You should freeze the toilet paper first… it at least would make for a great prank!

Frozen toilet paper will probably result in workplace violence.
