I have a carbine equipped with an LMT SOPMOD stock, which is a bit too short for me. When I mount the rifle the front edge of the stock bites into my cheek. I've looked high and low for a longer "drop-in" butt pad, but nobody seems to make one. Do any of you sharpies know of such a beast on the market? Thanks very much.

PS - By "drop in", I mean one that will snap right in to the plastic rear baseplate of the stock.

This is probably a bit more than what you're looking for, but it does fulfill your goal to have a longer pad. It's made by battleline industries. I have no experience with any of their products.

ETA: UWone77 has an install guide for it right here on wevo: http://www.weaponevolution.com/forum/showthread.php?4922-Battleline-Industries-SAPR-Installation

Thank you very much for such a detailed and extensive answer, Slippers. That's one impressive piece of equipment all right. I hope I don't have to go that far just to get a bit more stock length, but it's looking more and more like nobody makes a simple extended pad for the SOPMOD stock. Again, I can't thank you enough for your time, effort, and courtesy.

Interestingly enough, someone asked a similar question of B5 awhile back on the M4C forums. Link to the thread: http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?101976-Different-buttpads-available-for-LMT-SOPMOD-stock

The owner of B5 implied that they were working on alternate pads, so it might be worth it to email him or call B5 and see if they have something.

Edit: I was browsing Rainier Arms' Christmas specials and they have the SAPR for $129, and supposedly you can enter coupon code "2013" to have the price knocked down a bit more (although their shopping cart is giving me issues at this very moment).

I just happened to come across it, not like I'm actively searching for you, I swear! :)

Actively searching or not, you are a wealth of information and a real gentleman. I'm going to check into the link and go from there. Thanks again, kind sir. i'll let you know the outcome.

(later note: Looks like I'm not the only one doing this search. Nice to know.)

I wrote up the guide, but thanks for giving Stick all the credit :)

A few years ago, I too looked for a drop in pad, but at the time there wasn't much out there. There still doesn't appear to be much out there. If you're not stuck with the SOPMOD, you could go for a lot of other stocks on the market that are functional and offer similar qualities of the SOPMOD. My personal favorite is the CTR or the STR with the Magpul enhanced buttpad to give you that extra length.

If you like the SOPMOD, the Battleline SAPR that Slippers referred to is very nice and well made. I like mine, but it's geared more to the precision shooter. Let us know what you ultimately decide on!

My bad! I guess I was looking at the watermark on the pictures. Apparently I fail at reading comprehension. Edited my post above for proper credit.

Gents. I emailed Mark at B5 systems and he informed me that his company's extended butt pads for the SOPMOD stock will be made available sometime in 2014. As for switching to another stock, I would dearly like to but the stock is an LMT that came on an LMT rifle, and after spending so much money on it I am reluctant to move to another stock design. I think I'll wait out B5 systems for a year and see if they indeed come up with a thicker pad. I want everyone to know how much I appreciate your gentlemanly and willing approach to helping me with my problem. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again.

That's great news. I've been holding off on a B5 but it looks like there is hope. Thanks!
