For those that don't need the rails or cost of say the Geissele (http://geissele.com/) Super Modular Rail, ALG Defense (https://www.facebook.com/AlgDefense) has the solution. As most of you know ALG Defense (https://www.facebook.com/AlgDefense) is the sister company of Geissele Automatics (http://geissele.com/). These appear to be quality tube rails for those looking for a minimalistic setup.

Description:

The EMR was developed as a cost-effective, lightweight, ergonomic, and modular option for the AR15 platform. The EMR will be available in 10″, 12″, and 13″ lengths and start at just $135.

Rail sections will be available at 45 and 90 degree sections. They are secured in a similar manner with backing plates and screws.
It appears that the proprietary barrel nut will have to be "timed" unlike the Geissele counterparts. There are channels for the gas tube.

Weights:

The weights provided below include the proprietary EMR barrel nut minus the weight of the stock barrel nut. Weights for the 13″ EMR will be forthcoming.

10” EMR (No ACCY Rails Attached) = 7.68oz
10” EMR (With Co-Witness Only Attached) = 10.1oz
10” EMR (With All ACCY Rails Attached) = 12oz

12” EMR (No ACCY Rails Attached) = 8.96oz
12” EMR (With Co-Witness Only Attached) = 11.68oz
12” EMR ( With All ACCY Rails Attached) = 13.28oz

Outer Diameter is 1.7"
Inner Diameter is 1.45"

Typo from ALG? I don't know why they would say the weights include the proprietary nut minus the weight of the stock barrel nut...not like the stock barrel nut is used. Strange.

Anyway, for the price, impressive. It's not the lightest tubular handguard, as something like the NSR 13.5" is 11 oz including the barrel nut, and has a full length top rail, but at half the cost, it's certainly worth taking a look at.

ETA: looks like shims and a non-torque wrench compatible barrel nut wrench is included. I wonder how you approximate "tight enough" during installation?

For that price it looks like a winner.

Agreed. Might have to snag one for review….

A couple of tid bits of information gathered:

-This new line from ALG is to open up a new line of accessories not competing with upper end Geissele lines.
-The barrel nut wrench automatically applies the proper torque and indexes the barrel nut at the same time, so torque wrench compatibility is not needed.
-No full length top rail as this is not a MIL/LE focused rail.
-Accessories like a QD mount and a dedicated bipod stud (similiar to the CMR stud) will be coming.

My understanding is the weight is reported with the stock barrel nut weight subtracted. This is to compare to rails that clamp on to a stock barrel nut.
