I'm sort of a new guy here and don't really know anyone from Adam so to speak. I know it's a gun place but it's always cool to see what other people do for fun. Me, I have a few hobbies. Some I'm better at that the others.

For about 5 years I've enjoyed road racing sport bikes. I got out of that recently to buy a house and please the wife, but knowing me I'll be back in it before too long.

http://i.imgur.com/TtiOMzd.jpg

I'm learning like crazy to take photos, though I've still got a LONG way to go. What looks good to me tends to not look good to others but I try.

http://i.imgur.com/shEqEAS.jpg

I also collect...err...attempt to collect watches. I fancy Omega but the wife usually stops me in my tracks when I show the price tag. Right now I've only got two watches and this is the latest purchase.

http://i.imgur.com/Cnc1hqa.jpg

I also like to build and tinker with cars. I used to have a '74 Corvette that was pretty sweet. Big block 468 built pretty well. Wife decided that had to go so I could go bike racing. [crazy]

What are you guys in to?

Nice photos gents.

Interesting how a lot of gun enthusiast enjoy a lot of the same hobbies. Over the years I've enjoyed a ton of hobbies, but firearms was one I never took a break from.

Yeah, I never took a break from guns either. Been shooting since before I was allowed to own them and never stopped loving it.

Interesting thread - hope more share.

I had a conversation with a motorcycle - once. We mutually agreed not to continue the relationship. I couldn't seem to get my hand out from under the clutch lever and it chased me around in the mud for awhile. [BD]

I have enjoyed track time on four wheels though. Last version was a 10th Anniversary Edition SVT Cobra Mustang. Had 470 RWHP and 540 Torque at the tires - just a beast.

Raced a couple of road courses including Road Atlanta.

Pit Row after a session, just took off the harness.

Thanks - the first new car I bought with my own money was a 1967 Mustang Coupe - $2,800 sticker. I've had a couple since then.

My first car was a 1982 Mustang GT with a 302 4-speed. The guy I bought it from had a lot in the motor and apparently raced it pretty hard. After only a couple of months of owning it a valve spring broke and dropped the valve on top of the piston. We built a pretty stout motor to replace it. I ran high 9's in the 1000', it's the only track we have around here. I've helped build a couple of mustangs for drag racing, one broke the track record in the street legal division. So I guess my hobbies are working on cars, fishing and hunting, when I have the time. My two little boys keep me pretty busy.

I ran a GSXR 750 on a bunch to track days. Last high side told me it was a time to move to a different hobby.
I was a PGA Golf Instructor for a long time as well. Wakeboard, snowboard, and skiing. I rodeoed for a long time...bareback bucking horses and calf roping. All of my hobbies have led to broken bones and extended hospital visits minus the golf haha. Figured it was time to settle down and reconnect with a skill set that was taught to me a long time ago.

That's the only Ford I would buy. I absolutely love those Cobras.

I ran an extensively modified R1 '07 at the track. When I high sided and watched $4,500 worth of Ohlins suspension, $3,000 worth of Ti Akra exhaust and a $9,000 bike get WADDED up I started buying cheap Gixxer 600's and 750's. Slap an exhaust, tuner and Brembo MC on them with some sticky rubber and good pads and go bowling with those.

I've got my eye in a black 2013 CTS-V. I say yes. The wife says no. She hates me.

My daily is a 2010 GMC 1500 SLT with a 6.2 liter V8. Full exhaust. Tune. CAI. Couple other goodies. Factory 3.73 limited slip rear. It put down 388RWHP and 404RW Ft-lbs thru a 295 all terrain tire. Surprises a few people.

Man, I know envy and coveting are a couple of the deadly sins, but looking under the hood of that Cobra is going to send me straight to Hell! That things got to be a kick in the ass when you nail it. Aw, heck, if I had it I'd probably just lose my license and have to park it anyway...:P

Question: What temperature do you start at?

I spend a lot of time on my lines. If there is one thing that stippling has taught me, it is that the most important part of aesthetics is symmetry in lines and contours. I alternate between several very fine tips of my own design to accomplish what you see.

It's a great bike...always loved the thumpers....the bigger the better. In the absence of RPM's, torque is the name of the game in the dirt. This thing has monster torque, but to get it usable as an off-road bike I basically took it apart and started over.

Cheap cigars, cheap beer, expensive rum. I used to do expensive been and expensive cigars until I realized they were breaking me for no good reason.

The "craft beer" craze has just about put me off beer entirely. When you get a bunch of people that will choke down any over-hopped swill just to have a scene to belong to, it pretty much poisons the whole movement. So I went back to my old college standby of PBR until it became the hipster beer and people started wanting me to actually pay for it. At this point I'm down to Bud as my next go-to. If nothing else, people won't steal my beer from coolers at parties.

I find that as I get older the idea of chasing around after this or that new thing has pretty much left me. I used to always be on the hunt for the next great wine, beer, rum, cigar, gun, car part... now I am finally mature enough (in one sense!) to know what I like and just stick to it. People keep telling me "you gotta try this rum, it's great!" No, thank you. I'm aware of the rum that I like, either on the rocks or in Coke, and I'm just fine with that. Same with cigars. Although I'll drink and smoke just about anything if it's free, unless it's rum and has either a bat or a pirate on the label, and then I'd rather drink Jim Beam.

I had two cars that I sunk A LOT of money in and got nothing back from it. That's when I realized I was an idiot for modifying cars with money I didn't have. Unloaded both of them for minimal profit, bought my truck, and have added nothing to it and haven't had a single problem.

Having a car that is fixed up to drive around on the weekends and for shows and such is one thing, putting 15 grand into a car that you drive daily and will almost inevitably break is a whole different ball game. I'm glad I learned that young.

This is so true. I also traded my "show off" vehicle for a practical Tacoma 8 years ago, and I've never had to do anything but change the oil and tires. I liked it so much when it was time to get a familymobile I got the wife a 4 door tacoma. They've never let us down.

I seen you wakeboarding in those pictures Ride4frnt, when I was a teen I use board all the time in green river lake but as I got older I couldn't bounce back from the spills like I use to so I gave it up. These days when I have some free time which is almost never I'm getting ready for deer season, or out fishing some where. We have some property here at the house so we have some cattle and chickens that keep me busy and we also try and rescue Pitbulls when we can.

You sound like an Old Munk kinda guy. I miss my rum, like you I pretty much knew what I wanted on the rocks or mixed. Ulsers get in the way now though. I drank many craft beers that honestly did nothing for me but liked trying them. Got on my nerves when a guy would say man this beer is great when i knew liking a particular beer was the in thing. I actually do like drinking bud light if you can believe that, but I am southern.

I ski all winter, wakeboard and fish in the summer. Shoot as much as I can. I've had my share of injuries from taking hits, I've mellowed out myself. Around the ages of 14-18 it seemed like I had a few too many hospital visits, one two week stay when I was 14 due to a bad skiing accident.

People think because your on water it wouldn't hurt.. Ha. I'll have to dig up some old boarding pics. I use to be fairly good, wake 2 wake jumps, board grabs, bunny hop 180s. I doubt I could even get outta the water now it's been so long. I miss it. When the water was actually still and the sun setting.. Great memories.

I've taken hard hits on snow, and easy coast snow is more like ice. I'd rather hit hard on that than water.

I'm learning like crazy to take photos, though I've still got a LONG way to go. What looks good to me tends to not look good to others but I try.

I also collect...err...attempt to collect watches. I fancy Omega but the wife usually stops me in my tracks when I show the price tag. Right now I've only got two watches and this is the latest purchase.

I also like to build and tinker with cars. I used to have a '74 Corvette that was pretty sweet. Big block 468 built pretty well. Wife decided that had to go so I could go bike racing. [crazy]

What are you guys in to?

Eh, who cares what others think of your photos. If you're having fun, and you pull some pics out that you like, then it was well worth it. Even professionals take dozens and dozens of pictures to find the few in the bunch that they/customers like. As for the watches, thats too many gun and truck parts still on the shelf for my tastes, lol. I do the picture thing too when it suits me, by no means professional, but have grabbed some shots that turned out well. Other than that, fishing, hunting, shooting....

That's exactly how I felt about my first 4 BMW's... worthless in snow. First one, had all seasons that made it "decent" but the last one had performance tires, and I learned the hard way, I wasn't going anywhere even with a dusting of snow.

The Z doesn't even make a pretense at being a winter car, but that's fine with me. I could put a set of Blizzaks on it and it might get around in the snow, but that car is about driving fun -- zero practicality -- so IMHO there's little point. Best to just tuck it away and drive the GMC.

But come January I will be back on the trails (once the monsoon season is over) and probably taking my kids with me. I also have modified some flashlights and made a 500lm streamlight M3. And that was waaaaay before 500lm pistol lights were cool. Like 5years ago or something like that. Got some other lights that I am working on that will be pretty sweet as well. Wow, that E30 looks amazing. Nice job resurrecting her. Is the interior redone, as well?

Thank you! sadly it looks much better in pictures. I need to get some new trim as well. The interior is a work in progress. I pulled the nasty tan carpet from it, its currently carpetless and im on the lookout for some black carpet. Only nice thing about the interior is my evo3 suede steering wheel. I have a brand new Mtech 2 kit i ordered from Germany tht will go on this one eventually when i can get some money together for paint. This car has the 5 lug conversion from the E30 M3. The suspension is my pride and joy on this one!

I love E30's... maybe one day! E30, E36, E46, the last time I loved the 3 series. Owned a E90, meh...

They are great little cars! I owned an E36 m3 and sold it for an E30, no longer have that one though, and was never happier!

After the E46, things have gone down hill looks wise. I own an E90 and it gets the job done but it doesnt do much other than that. I wouldnt have even looked around for one but we got a great deal on it from the father in law so couldnt say no.

I was never really satisfied with the looks of the e90, but I will say this...on a track, they were pretty damn impressive for what they were. That engine was (and still is) a pretty decent power house and the balance of the e90 is still pretty fantastic. I've taken a e90M (e91?...can't remember what the V8 M was called) and it was also pretty amazing. That bigger engine really shined, but at the end of the day, it was still fundamentally an e90, but with better pickup (among other things, obviously).

I foresee, sometime in the future, a 2 series in my possession. The 1 seemed pretty perfect (I like smaller cars), but since that's gone now, I'm thinking the 2 will be on my short list to eventually (someday) replace my trusty e86. Until then, my little shark will continue to entertain me.

I owned a couple of E46's, BEST. 3 Series. EVER in my opinion. Perfect size too. My favorite was a 2005 E46 330CI with the ZHP Performance Package. It was the Poor Man's M3. Not as fast, but plenty of power. Man I wish I had never traded that thing in. Worst decision I ever made. I had 9500 miles on it after 3 years and traded it in for a new 2008 335. Fuck, I still miss that car. An E46 M3 is on the list of one day cars for me. A few years ago I went in search of one, but the ones locally were all roached out or modded. I want Stock.

I'm sure we could have been brothers. [:D] I drove my E90 a few times on our PD EVOC Course, way better than say a Crown Vic. Performance wise, they were great, but like you said, not really sold on the looks. I think they grew too large. We don't have a 3 series anymore as we went with an E70 a few years ago. The plan is next year we're going to go look at a new M3.

Like I mentioned earlier, would love to find a E46 M3 or maybe even a decent E39 with lower miles. Too many toys on the list, not enough money!

This kind of sailed over my head last night but I can't let it go now... You sold a 2005 e46 ZHP with 9500 miles on it in 2008? In 2005-2006, I would have probably driven to WA to get it from you. Hell, in 2008 I might have even thought about it. For shame!

I would freaking love a clean ZHP!! But, I would have a hard time paying for one when you can get an M3 for around the same price. I would much rather have an S54..

speaking of S54's.. if I can offload the hoard of rare E30 stuff I have I would love to do the swap.. but also the guns I could buy with that money is keeping me back haha

When they were new, it wasn't the same price. [:D]

I got my '05 ZHP for 49K out the door. I think the pre-tax/license price on the M3 I was looking at was 64K. Out of my budget at the time.

The ZHP was slower than the M3, but it certainly looked good with the body kit, and the special wheels. They were also fewer of them out there.

oh yeah, when they were new that's a whole nother' story! I know people now that have paid $20k for a high mileage example. But, even now M3's have skyrocketed in price. We have been looking for one for my brother and cant seem to find anything that isn't beat to hell in his moderate price range.

have you seen the prices of E30 M3's lately?!!! it is insane, and not sure I will ever own one anymore. Much rather spend $45k on something else. I was in line once to purchase a 88' for $10,500. I was springing as fast I could to scrounge the cash but couldn't do it in time. My buddy ended up buying it and did some maintenance and flipped it for $26,000. Now, that same car in the condition it was in, could easily sell in the 40's. I think about it all the time :/. I did though a few years back, find an E34 M5, slightly wrecked, sitting in some ones yard. Got them down for less than a beat up S38 would cost. That car magically turned into my wife's wedding ring hahaha

my dogs, and my boat. Walking the pups all over Alaska is incredible, and running my boat fishing and tossing shrimp pots is equally awesome. Done the snow machine thing, had a '72 Jeep with a LT1 350 in it, had a hopped up Mustang and so on but finding as I get older it's the simple things that please me the most. A hike in the woods with the dogs and a good cigar, and chasing fish on the boat. Simple. Yet, incredible.

Every once in a while I will draw. I'm somewhat good at it, but it takes a lot of time and concentration, so I don't do it very often. The catch is, I can only draw something I'm looking at; if I try to draw from my mind, it comes out no better than a toddler's doodling.

I've got oceans to play on, and the time I go out for shrimp, there are very few others out... too cold I guess (April15th). So I foresee steel targets on the banks, and maybe an old buoy or two - depending on if they still float after being shredded by gunfire. I could tie a foam floater onto them I s'ppose to make sure I can still retrieve them if they do sink some. Not to mention the cabin we use has lots of areas to set up steel ranging all the way out to 1000 yards, all reachable via my boat.

Yeah, it's gonna be fun this spring!

I just started banjo earlier this year, you're never too old. So far I'm having a lot of fun the only thing is I spent more on a banjo than I ever have on a gun and the one I really want is probably worth more than all of my guns combined!

My saving grace is my wife's violin/fiddle was a lot cheaper to buy (yard sale find), but worth a LOT more.

Dexterity depends on the style of play. Scruggs style is the one you see most and does require a fair amount of dexterity. The other style is called flailing and is much simpler. Steve Martin has a video up demonstrating both styles but I don't recall the title. My wife plays violin/fiddle (same instrument different names depending on who you're talking to) and mandolin. In her words the mandolin is just like the fiddle only more sloppy.

I have other hobbies and they are all waaaaay too expensive if you let them be, others are more cheap :)

Obviously I like shooting and guns.... one can never have too many. And to add to that I like various aspects of it. Shotgunning, pistol shooting, target, and I would even like to give some bench rest shooting a go. Each aspect of that alone has a high cost...ammo etc.

I also very much like photography. I like the artistry of that.

Travel is a HUGE thing for me. I have lived in 7 countries so far and been to maybe 50 or so. I don't do the whole fly in, see the sights and then leave thing... I more like to live with the people and see how other people live. I love other cultures (and food).

I love learning foreign languages. By far the best other than English is Mandarin Chinese. I have to admit to being really lax in studying though. It has no practical use to really know all that stuff. (East Asia has always been my area of sort of 'expertise'...that said I shy away from the word 'expert' all day every day) At one point I figured I put in about 7,000 actual study hours into learning the language (spread over 6 or 7 years)...but that evens out to about 20 hours per week with your nose in a book. After that I lost count.

I like, er LOVE, to cook. I just flat out enjoy creating tasty things. I don't have a lot of time and resources (and mostly people to cook for) so for a while now I just keep it relatively simple. I can cook a mean steak :)

I also like fishing and pretty much outside stuff.

I could easily think of other things to add to this list. Tomato gardening comes to mind :)

My day job requires me to live on the road, which gives me little opportunity for stippling but ample time in diners and restaurants. This past summer I got the chance to work at my uncle's deer breeding ranch. I still visit as often as I can but I don't work there anymore, so I would consider it a hobby. I worked there for 4 months and my cousin and I cared for about 60 deer total including 25 or so fawns. Whitetail deer breeding is a whole different ballgame from cattle. We had to feed/change water twice a day, fill feeders at least twice a week, mow the pens weekly, pick up crap and moldy, maggot infested feed on the ground weekly, tranquilize deer and give them medication, and so on. There were many nights where we would feed deer after putting in a 12 hour day, only to find out we had to clean out the feeders or move limestone into the pens, and we would put in another unexpected 4 hours. I wouldn't trade this experience for the world; it was without a doubt one of the best summers I've ever had. Sure it was hard work but the amount of knowledge I gained and the experience itself made it all worth it. How many people can say they've taken selfies with their arm around a LIVE deer?
Hope y'all enjoy the pics!

This buck broke a tine and was bleeding so we had to call someone in to tranquilize him, cut the tine off, and cauterize the wound.

Pam is hilarious. That whole situation is crazy though. I've spent my fair share of time with cattle working on ranches but I've never considered breeding deer. Who pays for bred deer? Hunting ranches?

Liked Hammet's Ouija graphic so well, I did one myself. Milton Bradley outlawed these in the 80's d/r copyright infringement by ESP.

Love my tube amps as well. I used to gig, but now I record. This shit is heavy! Hell, I gave up lugging stacks, but a 1x12" Mesa combo weighs 120 lbs in the road case!

This is my design; a 7/8th's "dinky" style, twin hum Tele, with belly and forearm cuts and a routed for a Floyd Rose locking tremolo. It;s a hybrid Kramer/Jackson/ Telecaster that I call my TelePacer Imperial. It was made by Warren Parker of SouthEast Guitars in Muscle Shoals AL and assembled by myself. The raw slab of 5A flame maple lumber for this build cost $500! That's before craftsmanship!

Probably posted before... but my all time fav hobby is running my boat here in Alaska - I could post pages of photos to prove it!

Of course there are all the things that go along with that - cigars, shooting, fishing, crabbing, shrimping, and probably the best is taking someone for the first time out sightseeing with whales, porpoise, sea lions, bald eagles, sea otters, and GLACIERS! Makes for a fullfilling day.

Quantity-wise, the majority of deer are sold to hunting ranches. Mainly stocker bucks and bred does. For stocker bucks, you take the average score of all the bucks you're selling and I'm pretty sure you multiply that score by a dollar amount and that's how much you sell the whole lot for. They high fenced 100 acres so a few years from now they plan on releasing stocker bucks into that area to cut out the middle man and sell hunts themselves.

They will also sell a lot of deer to other breeders, whether it be fawns, breeder bucks, or does with good pedigrees. Fawns typically sell for about $1500 each and does and bucks can range anywhere from $2000-200,000. We were talking to another breeder a while back who told us one time he had a guy coming to buy a doe for $80k and the day before he was going to buy her, she ran into the fence and broke her neck. Even though they're pretty tame, they're still unpredictable, wild animals.

I don't know much about musical instruments but I know that shelling out the cash for quality material is absolutely worth it for personal projects. The finished product looks great. Since you assembled it, did you have to do much finishing work?

I enjoy every one of those I've tried. But that's limited to shooting, cigars, fishing, and seeing eagles and otters. I was able to see some bald eagles up close working on remote ranches in the mountains of CA. They certainly aren't common there but I can see why they are such a powerful national symbol.

Well damn... I've never had an $80K disappointment before and I hope I never do.

Lol you and me both! That guy just plays around a breeds deer for fun. You can't make money if you're dropping that kind of coin on ONE deer.

Great collection. I have a Japanese made Strat. I gutted the electronics and have hand wound 59 spec single coils in it. I would like a Mesa-Boogie Lonestar amp, but currently just play through a Line 6. I have a Genz-Benz acoustic amp and a few nice acoustics. I love the flamed maple on that Tele.

$80K for a deer just for fun? I'm not even mad. I'm impressed..
