The Rainier Arms Force (https://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=4277) rails are now shipping. These are the same rails used in the new Rainier Arms RUC Mod 2 Rifles. These new rails are free float rails that attach with their own proprietary barrel nut. They also offer KeyMods at 3,6, and 9 o'clock positions with a standard 1913 top rail. Having handled some preproduction and production models, I can attest to the fact these are in usual Rainier Arms fashion, top notch quality rails. I can't wait to buy a few myself to use on future uppers. Initially, these will be available in 12" and 9" lengths, but more variants are on the way. Check them out or order them on their website here (https://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=4277).

Looks to be a version of Seekin's MCSR V2 Mod Rail. There is a pic on this site of MCSR V2 Mod Rail with a KX5 pinned underneath it.

So I'm looking at the 9" Force as an option for a 10.5" pistol (SBR eventually). I greatly dislike its current YHM so much that I didn't even bother to pin the gas tube yet, and that rail will find its way into the pay it forward thread very soon.

As I look at the pics, I see a barrel nut that needs to be indexed at a specific orientation to secure the rail - and those index points are 90 degrees apart. Most of the nuts I've seen that require this type of indexing are either bidirectional and/or include a shim kit to allow in-spec torque on the nut - yet the FORCE nut is pretty clearly unidirectional (look at the location of the mounting holes) and there's no mention of shims.

Am I missing something here, or is this system really designed to require as much as a 90 degree rotation to align the mounting holes?

RR,

Shims are provided... I believe 5 come with the rail. Maybe this will answer some of your questions:

Ha! Nuclear-level overkill on the information, but thanks much!

I think I'm going to try one of these out. In terms of quality-to-price, I've seen nothing that compares with Rainier's Samson-based Evolution rails. I'm sure this Seekins-based Force rail offers equal value. And I gotta tell you, I really like the open-trussed cutout look.

My ONLY concern is mounting. There's only one rotational position for the barrel nut in which both the top rails mate perfectly AND the mounting holes align exactly center-to-center. An over-rotated nut could be shimmed back out to create perfect alignment, but if the nut bottoms out too soon it's not so easily corrected. Since I have complete confidence in Rainier's customer support, even that isn't worth obsessing on.

So, I guess it's ordering time (someone has to be the guinea pig, right?)

The evolution rail is a great solution for guys who like the standard barrel nut and easy installation. The Force rail mounting system is more secure.

Steel or aluminum barrel nut? Im assuming alum. with the low weight..

Also got a pic looking down the rail at the inside?
With or without a barrel in it, just trying to grasp its shape...Im looking at this rail and a few others for my pistol build..

Thanks dude.

UW may be able to help you with the pic, but I can describe the shape as I have no pics of mine looking down the inside.

It's perfectly round inside, with rounded "ridges" that fit in the corresponding grooves on the barrel nut. OD is not overwhelming, IMO, would be perfect for a pistol built.

This is as close as I've got offhand, you can see it's perfectly round inside, and not a huge diameter.

Need the wrench with the 3 "points" sticking out, but I believe most all of them have that. There are 2 little cylindrical things in the package that slip over the points on the wrench to torque the nut down.

Here is UW's install thread. Also can get a better idea of he shape.
