That actually reminds me of my third deployment. Every 7 days, our marksman had to expend 10 rounds from the M107. Obviously fun would ensue... I remember one day I lost count and thought he only shot 8 rounds (he would usually load to 9). I'm thinking he might have given Jerry a run for his money on that day.

My local range has rentals you can pull out; had a chance to take one out to the range for a little bit (granted I only got to shoot 60 or so rounds). Very neat gun; well built with a lot of the weight towards the rear of the rifle (for obvious reasons), which helps having it suspended in the air with only your firing grip hand for an extended amount of time easier than your standard AR-15.

My memory's a bit hazy on this, but he one thing that I don't like about the Tavor is the trigger. Granted it's a very decent trigger (the 12lbs trigger pull isn't all that bad once you get use to it). Personal preference though, I hated the bit of mushy creep it had. (But the trigger certainly wasn't as bad as the ARX 160 trigger; that was gawd-awful - but to be fair, I've only ever dry fired an ARX 160 at a gun show.) On the flip side though (if I remember correctly) it did have a solid crisp trigger reset (nothing like a Geissele trigger, but up there). But what can you expect for a rifle meant for war right?

I guess that, and the fact that there's no bolt lock (like on an AR-15). The only way to lock the bolt to the rear is to insert an empty magazine and rack the charging handle.

But yeah, if you get the chance to mess around with one, don't let that opportunity pass!

Thompson wants a Thompson. Who woulda guessed?
Lemme guess - it was my profile picture that gave it away, right?

Must of somehow missed your reply back then ... but yeah, part of it is the disruptive grey and (moreso) it being an actual HSP rifle. Is it actually cheaper to build a pseudo-Jack Carbine? I'll have to run the numbers and take a look ... my MK1 is getting kinda lonely [BD]

But in all honesty, I'd prefer to own a nice quality factory gun before I go out and build my own. I can watch all the videos and stuff I can find on the internet, but nothing can replace shooting experience with shooting experience to fully comprehend how an AR-15 runs (at least that's how I see it in my mind [:D])

(Side note: did you ever get that PM I sent you regarding the WEVO PMAG? ... figured your inbox may have been full given your status in the interwebs :P)

... whelp - I've never tried it, but if you know who Tim is from Military Arms Channel, he is the Tavor guru (and probably one of the few firearms reviewers that really got the US shooting population into the Tavor/bullpups). And he's done it; lightened trigger down to somewhere like 8 lbs. I don't know much about how the trigger pack works, but if I understand it correctly there's 2 springs, one of which can be removed without messing up the mechanics of the trigger.

MoxyDave
1 October 2014, 05:23
The trigger was designed by professionals and the spring is there for a reason. You can do what you want, but I don't believe removing springs from a trigger is a good idea.

There are at least 2 aftermarket Tavor triggers available now, from Geiselle and ShootingSight. They both alter the original geometry instead of just changing springs around.

My thought is if you can afford a Tavor, you can afford not to monkey around with shit and do things the right way.

At the top of my Wish List (there are many items on this list) is a WWII-era M1911A1. Would LOVE a Colt or Springfield, but would settle for a Rand too. My Great Grandfather carried one in WWII, and I think it would just be awesome to have one. You see, I never met the man, as he died before I was born. However, I was named after him (middle name), and I've seen all of his medals, etc. I also have a .45ACP round (WCC 42 stamped) that he brought back for some reason. No one knows why, but it's got a spent .45 projectile pressed back in.

I also have my other Grandfather's 1948 Browning A5 (I harvest deer with it every year), so having that would feel like I have guns from both men.

As do I. I picked up a Hastings rifled slug barrel with rifle sights about 5 years ago (paid a pretty price for it too), and it's been a shooter. It loves Hornady 12GA SSTs. Some think I'm crazy taking it out in the field, but that's what three generations of my family have done (four including me), so why wouldn't I take it out. A pistol chambered in .45ACP, likely a Sig 1911. Would love to one day justify buying a Wilson combat though.

I didn't even consider a Wilson Combat because it's so out of my price range , but yes I would love one too.

A Colt Python like my father-in-law had would be great.

My brother just got one, and is modifying it to copy the Marine's M40A3. I'm very jealous.

A POF in .308 is my dream rifle, then I can retire my CETME.

Right now I am waiting on Glock to come out with a single stack 9mm. I am hearing that it will likely come out during the upcoming shot show. I hope so.

I'll have to stick with something that I would immediately put into daily use. It'd have to be a go for a 4th Generation Glock 19.

Nothing wrong with Gen 4 Glocks but I prefer Gen 3.

Bought a Gen 4 Glock when they first came out. Would have bought a Gen 3 Glock had I known there were issues. After I got the issues resolved, the Gen 4 worked like a champ.

I want an AR. I actually won a stripped lower and a couple other parts on Facebook and IG. Then family members chipped in to get me all the parts (except a trigger) for a complete ambi lower. So I guess my answer to the question is that I want a trigger and an upper. :)

Get you a BCM upper while they still have their offer going. The ALG triggers and Geissele G2S are very good triggers for the price.

Thanks, Gost. That's exactly what I would do if I did not have to pay off a bunch of medical bills right now. I do really like the BCM upper with the KMR and the ALG trigger is great for the price. All in due time... I am thrilled to almost have my lower complete.

Thanks. We are doing great! Three years ago my daughter was born with special needs and spent two weeks in the NICU. Doctor was out of network, of course... Then, six months later, I had a heart attack. I should have died. By the grace of God I made it. Since then, I have lost 50 pounds and my heart is back to being fully functional. My beautiful daughter is an absolute joy and doing very well. So it's all good. Thanks again!
