So I put together this rifle for my buddy and it looks pretty sweet. Go to throw one of my gen 3 PMAGs in it and it goes all the way in very tightly - it does not hit the trigger guard - and won't fall free. I throw a gen 2 in and everything goes as it should.

Anyone else seen this happen with a CMT lower? Is it normal? Should I buy a stock of gen 2 PMAGs and love with it?

No it's not normal and what do you mean by "doesn't hit the trigger guard"?

Buy some USGI mags and upgrade them with Magpul followers or get some newer production Okay mags with the tan anti-tilt followers.

I'm not bashing PMAG's, I have a bunch and use them often but in my opinion everyone should have at least a few metal magazines.

Some lowers just don't get along with polymer magazines.

I agree... I'm confused by the "doesn't hit the trigger guard." Do you mean the bolt catch when the mag is empty?

In my search to see if anyone else had issues I found that with some billet lowers like the POF the over travel stop on the magazines hits the trigger guard.

This is not my case. The gen 3 seems that it's maybe .003 too big on all sides where the gen 2 fits fine.

Return them get gen 2's, or sand them down to fit. I'd go with steel mags mainly because I live in a lame state haha

I'd just stick with the gen2.

Checked both of my CMT receivers and a M3 PMAG. Both fit and drop free without any issues. The lip of the magazine comes close to the trigger guard, but doesn't touch it.

Have you checked the receiver with more than 1 M3 PMAG?

I have about 26 Gen 3 PMAGs. Some fit, some don't so I think it's a mold issue with the PMAGs.

I asked CMT via email and got a phone call yesterday. Got a call from a nice older fellow and after it was said and done we spent about an hour on the phone. Really awesome guy. Talked about machining, min/max tolerances and stack up. By the end of the call I made the list for the next run of bronze reliever sets and he's sending me a bunch of CMT things - stickers, patches etc.

CMT is definitely my top choice for receivers now.

^ Definitely sound like the PMAG molding issue, my CMT lower drops free both gen 2 pmags (non windowed) and c-defense aluminum mags by gravity.

CMT are my go-to place to build higher end/quality AR..... like when they release the .308 in the coming months :)
