A friend has a Bushmaster "patrolman" rifle with an standard FSB. He put a cheap scope on it and is pissed with seeing the front sight through his scope. Just so happens one of my rifles is a Windham SRC with a railed gas block. I've been wanting to swap barrels to one with FSB and almost bought one recently. With his griping about his and my perceived need, I figured we could swap.

Herein is my question. Would this be a good trade? I tried to sell my barrel and Samson flip up front sight to fund a new barrel but no one local wants a barrel with a railed gas block. I'll likely have to let go of my front sight with the trade anyway as he's a cheap arse and doesnt realize the cost of a quality flip up sight.

Yes, no, maybe. Instead of swapping barrels it would be easier to just swap complete uppers. One thing to keep in mind about Bushmaster is that they do not use F marked front sight bases. This may or may not create a compatibility issue.

Seems I have sold my barrel anyway. I'm not going to wait on my fickle friend to decide whether he wants to swap or not. And I had though of swapping uppers, but mine is painted with Brownells AlumnanHyde II and I don't want to strip it just to repaint his after the swap. And Id have to pull the barrels anyway to reinstall the handguard cap and delta assembly on mine and to take his off.

Hopefully the sale goes through. I think the BUIS will be easy enough to sell.

Sounds like a lot of work to swap barrels. Like Eric posted, just a lot easier to swap uppers. Do you have all the tools to swap barrels?

I do have all the tools to swap barrels. That is to say, I have access to the PD armory which has all the tools and a Colt certified armorer!

And yes, it would normally be easier to swap uppers, but I would have to pull my barrel anyway to reinstall the delta assembly and then pull his barrel to take the delta assembly off so I can put my free float tube one.

Long story short, my buddy never gave me an answer so I bought a new barrel and sold my old one. Put the new barrel on yesterday evening.
