DD Lite Rail 12" Install DPMS LR-308 G2 Problems

I've bought a Daniel Defense lite rail to install on my LR-308 G2. I got the original rail and barrel nut removed but have run into a big problem. The new barrel nut is to big to fit on to the receiver. The barrel nut slips over top of the threads for the receiver. Also the barrel seems to be a different design? the place where the nut should grab the barrel is extended about a 1/2 inch further than what its intended for if it could thread onto the receiver. My question is.. does any one know if there is a different barrel nut intended for these threads and barrel?

Did you buy the correct Barrel Nut? Daniel Defense offers Armalite and DPMS patterned barrel nuts for AR-10 Lite Rails

it says dpms assembly on the packaging

And your upper receiver is a DPMS patterned AR10?

As far as I can tell yes.. I bought the gun as a complete dpms lr-308

So to understand this you took the rail off of another gun? Or bought it second hand? Then you purchased a new barrel nut and it's too big? Where'd you get the new barrel nut from?

I bought the gun new. Then I bought a new Daniel Defense quad rail for a dpms. The quad rail came with the new barrel nut and everything else to install the rail.

Here are the 2 barrel nuts. You really can't tell the differences just based on the picture. I would surmise you have the wrong barrel nut, but you probably already knew that.

I'd give Daniel Defense CS a call to confirm which barrel nut you have.

The threads on a standard DPMS LR-308 upper receiver are 1-7/16"x16.

The threads on a standard ArmaLite AR-10 are 1-7/16"x18.

You'll notice the thread diameters are the same, it's the thread pitch that is different.

If the barrel nut you received slips right over the threads on the upper receiver, then DPMS must have done something different with that G2 model.

Call them and ask.

I just read that the G2 model is a compact .308, you need an AR-15 Lite Rail for that upper.

Everything is smaller than a standard LR-308.
