Very nice. Looks similar ergonomically to the p30, which IMO is the most comfortable handgun to hold. Never shot one though.

I'll render judgement on it once I get my hands on one and/or see a comprehensive review on it. I read somewhere it would be in the $750 price range, but I only saw that on one site, and I frankly don't recall where. What I don't like about HKs are the price of admission and for spare mags. You pay for great quality though.

Joe from Dakota Tactical said they are priced at around $719.

LOL... this sums up a lot of people's opinion on HK's

Since the pistol will MSRP for $719, It will probably be mid to low $600's for a street price. Since it also uses existing P30 magazines, I will probably try one out. Like many have pointed out already, it seems like the entry fee for HK's are pretty high, so hopefully this one breaks that mold a bit. I'm actually looking forward to the P30SK this summer.

If HK goes back to their old (lower) pricing model, would that translate to a return of lower sales numbers or have they built-up enough credibility over the past ~decade to maintain current sales figures?

Good thing they will be using P30 mags instead of introducing yet another mag into the pipeline. Smart. I see P30 owners wanting this to get a striker-fired HK since they already got the mags.

Well, I've gotten rid of everything except HK and PPQs, so it isn't unanimous. ;-)

I'm happy to see the VP9, I just want a VP9SK to go with it.

And options for MRDS milled slides while we're at it.

Larry Vickers has weighed in giving his initial impressions of the VP9

As promised here are my first impressions of the HK VP9 - this is a non firing review as I have not gotten to the range with it yet; here goes-

1) Overall fit and finish is excellent as you would expect from HK

2) It has the same style of side panels and backstrap inserts as the P30 so a shooter can customize the grip to their hand - kudos to HK for that as options are good

3) The sights are the same as the P30 and HK45 series; perfectly usable and now easily swapped out for other options - far superior in every way to the hideous Glock plastic sights and even the plastic Walther PPQ sights

4) mags are interchangeable with P30 mags

5) the VP9 has a P30 style mag release and ambi slide releases that are similar to the P30 - I like the mag release and drop the mag with my trigger finger and the VP9 slide release is perfectly usable but I would personally prefer a bit more ledge as I release the slide with the support hand thumb; as is it is much better than the standard Glock slide release but I prefer the more pronounced ledge of the PPQ slide release - however I do prefer the P30/VP9 mag release over the Walther euro paddle style

6) the slide chargers appear to be a polymer U shaped piece that is under the rear sight - they work as advertised and help with slide charging. However I'm not sure they would answer the mail for one handed manipulation so if that is a big deal to you look at a replacement rear sight with a ledge design

7) okay now the biggie; trigger characteristics- my buddy Robbie Reidsma at HK gave me the rundown on the trigger a few weeks ago and I found he was spot on; it breaks a bit heavier than the PPQ but overall has a somewhat better feel in terms of length of pull, take up, overtravel and reset. All this is subjective of course but it is very comparable to the PPQ in trigger feel ( I actually like it better ) and is miles above a Glock trigger - no comparison. Well done HK as my VP9 has the best trigger on an HK pistol since since the P7 ( the trigger guard has the groove in it like the P30 and HK45 but I believe the trigger design will help prevent trigger finger bite which bothers many shooters including myself - live fire will tell the tale )

8) my only real complaint about the VP9 is it has a higher bore line over the backstrap/grip vs a Glock or PPQ - not dramatically more than the PPQ but the HK is the lowest of the 3 - this may or may not be a big deal to you but you need to be aware of it

Overall I am very impressed with the HK VP9 thus far and feel this pistol at the price it is going to sell at in your LGS ( $719 MSRP) is going to make it a very serious contender for all around best out of the box striker fired handgun!

Looks like the initial reviews on the pistol are positive. I will be a buyer for this pistol. Like someone said earlier, this appears to be marketed towards current HK owners. I love the fact that it uses P30 Magazines. As expensive as HK mags are, I'm glad they aren't bringing another platform of magazines into the fold. I also prefer the ergonomics of the P30 pistol, so the VP9 should be right on par.

Good for HK...I hope they do well in the U.S. market. It may force Walther now to keep the V1's in the U.S. market to keep pace....heck, maybe they might finally come out with a PPQ Compact (V1) which would be very interesting. As I said in the PPQ M2 thread, I don't see myself getting one, unless I really see it as completely blowing away the PPQ, and frankly, I don't see that happening. However, I may get a "VP40" if/when they become available.

15 June 2014, 22:09
AFAIK, Walther is planning to resume the V1 in the US.

I'm up for a PPQc V1 and/or VP9SK.

That said, in light of the VP9, seems like Walther's best bet is the M2 style to add differentiation.

Fantastic pistol.

It's boring as all out, though.

There is nothing to really modify - the panels came with the gun; it shoots where it's aimed. It's "perfect".

Held one, dry fired it and had to have it. I've put about 500 down the pipe and haven't been disappointed. The gun grips you. The deep seat your hand gets under frame forces it to track beautifully. The sight rises and rests naturally, right where it was when you pulled the trigger. Its light in the hand, noticeably so when compared to my M&P9. Magazines have been easily found, though a little pricier than others.

At $600, that's gonna kill the USP market, and possibly the P30. It's about time HK came out with some realistic prices for their guns.

Just a brief update;

I can tell you for a fact that the grip inserts for the P30 and the VP9 do not interchange, as reported here and elsewhere. I sent a set of P30 panels off to Boresight Solutions and had them textured for use on my VP9. Since I have read on a number of websites that the two guns use the same panels, I didn't bother to check beforehand. Well, it turns out that the VP9 panels appear the same but the tracks they slide in on are different. Also, the P30 back panel is flat across the top with the VP9's panel is rounded.

I paid $699 at a local shop for the non le model. I obtain a better sight picture and shoot more accurately with that one for some reason. I am searching for another magazine though. I couldn't take advantage of the online prices because I most sellers refuse to ship 15 round mags to Maryland even though my job allows me to be exempt from the law. Neither did I want to go through the hassle of finding a dealer willing to shipped the mags to my Mom's in NC.

I was exspecting to pay around $560 and buy it directly from H&K however they change the "blue gun" program.

Hkparts.net and topgunsupply are the only two online retailers I have seen with the VP9/P30 15 rounders. They are both out of stock right now though, I think because demand has been so high. There are the 30 round complete magazines in stock though.

I haven't seen any in stock for a long time. I'd sign up for email notifications, and act fast when you get the in-stock email.

I bought most of my extras here: http://www.topgunsupply.com/h-k-p30-9mm-15rd-magazine.html

and here: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/2391154437/hk-magazine-hk-p30-9mm-luger-steel-blue?cm_vc=ProductFinding

I've purchased all of the night sights for my HKs from Top Gun Supply, along with mags, a few accessories, and some factory parts. I've got some screaming deals on factory HK barrels at Bud's. As for buying replacement parts for your HKs, there are some really good dealers to be found on HKPro forums. The cheapest way to get parts for you HK being to buy direct from HK Customer Service. And contrary to the "because you suck, and we hate you" interwebs lore, i have found HK's customer service to be nothing less than stellar.

HK has always made a decent pistol, IMHO. Their triggers, on the other hand, sometimes left much to be desired. Of all my HKs, i think i like my USP45T the most. But the VP9 is my favorite 9mm hands down.
