Hoping that they would have a matching upper soon? Well, have no fear, their long awaited Spartan Upper is finally here. Like their lowers, these are high quality Billet Uppers made from 7075 T6 aluminum and Type III hard anodized. They match up perfectly with your existing Spartan Lower. Good price.

Curious why they went with the detachable Shell deflector/Forward Assist?

Any other pics out there of this upper, like the other side, with the block removed and what it looks like with the spartan lower together

I also wonder why modular? I wish VLTOR make a non-modular version of the MUR.

Don't worry Jason, you won't be buying one anyway... unless you beg your woman. :P

want

for whatever reason the JOB lower and the CMT upper didnt fit very well together. Front takedown pin is a PITA to remove and the upper and lower have friction when tilting the upper on the front pin. Cant explain why, both appear to be drilled straight on the pin hole, no visible issues that my calibrated eyeball can tell. I will likely end up getting this upper and seeing if its a better fit.

Also, the CMT upper fits all my other lowers great and the JBO lower fits all my other uppers fine. Dont know why, just didnt mix well. Yours may vary

Went over budget in June finishing the Rainier .308 and the CMT .308.

Just built a 10.5 pistol with this lower and everything was perfect except the holes for the takedown pins weren't finished correctly and it needed to be cleaned up and the front and rear detent pin spring holes weren't drilled all the way through

I don't have one, but I keep hearing they are already thinking of how to improve the upper in future versions. I guess one of the ideas is the ability to take off the F/A and make it a "modular" Upper.

I'm guessing maybe it'd be easier for desassembling process due to cerakoting purposes?

They wanted to be able to make the upper modular. Some people don't like forward assists.

I should be getting mine in the mail on Wednesday and will post some updated pictures.

Curious why they went with the detachable Shell deflector/Forward Assist?

I'm guessing there are some folks who are paranoid about the weight, and feel that decreased weight outweighs the benefits of the FA & brass deflector.

That's a really nice price for a billet upper.

UW - just face it, you secretly bought a Class III and just didn't want to tell us :P

Re-branded New Frontier C4 upper. Fits like a glove on their lowers but I have had some fitment issues on forged lowers.

First post here...

I'm a little taken aback by this, but... I asked JoeBob's CS and they pretty much told me.. "nope, no other covers, nope, no plans to make any."

Why... the F... would you make a product designed to be modular, and then produce NOTHING ELSE to make it modular?

I saw this and my gut reaction was, "Damn. I want one, that plus whatever the other plate will be, means I get something visually similar to the VLTOR MUR at a heck of a reduced price, who do I pay?!"

Imagine my disappointment when I found out otherwise. I'm talking to a buddy to see if he can cut out an adapter plate for me out of billet... maybe if he's feeling really nice, I'll be able to get him to draw it up so he can run a program and produce multiples.

Got another interesting idea to tack onto it, too... but more on that another time. ;)

Joe Bob's does not make that upper. They just rebadge another company's product. You are barking up the wrong tree. But honestly I am not sure if anyone ever had intentions to make other options. My guess is it's a cost saving step in the machining process more than anything.

rotrhed
13 October 2014, 11:37
That's a curious statement. Can you point me at who the original mfg is?

As far as saving a step in the machining process... I have a hard time seeing how 3d milling a secondary component saves any costs.

I'm already talking to a buddy about doing this; we'll see if anything comes of it..
