View Full Version : Recce-ish Build

jojo_got_mojo

The idea behind this build was to create a lightweight precision rifle. The following principles were taken into consideration.
- Precision
- Portability
- Practicality
- Versatility

While I realize that a Recce would fit the bill, I want to create something a little different, while keeping similar aspects and features. Recce-ish if you will.

Looks like someone took advantage of the BCM Sale. I've got a BCM SS410 16" Upper. More accurate than I'll ever be.

I took a look at BCM's sales, then took a look in the safe, then wondered why I looked at the site at all [:)]

Too many guns, too little time ... someone asked me the other day if I had shot every one of them. I had to think about it ...

That's what I've heard about these uppers. This is my first BCM. So far I am impressed, the build quality seems to be top shelf. If it shoots as sweet as sweet as it looks, I should have a winner.

So, you gonna chop that FSB down? If it's going to be a recce-ish, after all.

Yessir. I am planning on chopping it sometime this week.

This rail is awesome. Great blend of functionality and killer aesthetics. Slim and light as a feather. FSB will be visiting the barber soon.

Todd and the gang at SLR Rifleworks are fantastic. Their customer service is top shelf.

More sweet pieces of Black Rifle goodness arrived today. I apologize for the low quality pic. I'll post a higher quality one when I get it together.

I was thinking about going with the Magpul Enhanced Aluminum. But, some the billet ones have grabbed my attention as of late.

The price is a bit steep now that they aren't on revolvr, but check out the new billet rainier trigger guard. It's an awesome product, and negates the need for a roll pin and the chance of breaking your lower with said roll pin.

That is an awesome trigger guard. I wish I had caught it on revolvr. Looks like I might have to fork over a couple extra bucks, but it seems worth it. Thanks for the heads up. Much appreciated.

I really like the Rainier MTG. It's cheaper than the aluminum version of the Magpul trigger guard. Not sure how many people are going to want to spend $25 for a trigger guard though.

$25 is a bit high for a trigger guard, but for the ease of installation and down right awesomeness, I think I might be one of those people.

Great pic by the way. That BAD lower looks killer.

... well it peaked my interest, if $25 can help prevent me from breaking a lower, I think it might be worth the investment.

... although, I'm still trying to mentally understand how a typical trigger guard can do such a thing.

It's not the trigger guard that breaks the lower. It's the driving through of the typical roll pin that can snap the little "tabs" off your lower. The pin itself could break it, the punch or hammer could slip, etc. I've never broken one but I've seen broken ones and they aren't too pretty.

If the threaded billet trigger guards don't become standard, then the industry is missing a hell of a chance.

I recently bought a Little Crow Gunworks AR-15 Trigger Guard Roll Pin Pusher (http://www.midwayusa.com/product/318884/little-crow-gunworks-ar-15-trigger-guard-roll-pin-pusher).

I've only broken 1 receiver, years ago. But I build enough of them that it was worth it for $40 to never worry about it again. This is a great tool.

Check it out here in my Stickman build thread (http://www.weaponevolution.com/forum/showthread.php?5436-Epic-Stickman-50K-Giveaway-Rifle-Build/page3).

Finally got her all wrapped up last night. I am very happy with the way this thing turned out. Will update with some specs and shoot some groups this coming weekend. Currently have a Primary Arms MD-06 (which is a fantastic optic for the price) mounted until I decide on some glass. I am thinking a 1-4x. Maybe I'll win the US Optic in Stickman's giveaway. I can dream right? Here are some optics that I am considering; Vortex Viper PST 1-4, Burris XTR 1-4, SWFA SS HD 1-4. Any other optic suggestions or recommendations?

Went out and snapped a quick picture this evening. I will take some more pics when I get a chance.

Perhaps give the new PA 1-6x a try? I've heard good things about the gen 1 and for that price it isn't too bad if you'd have to sell it and buy another optic, or recycle it to another rifle. Also heard good things about the hi-lux glass if you don't want to break the bank.

At some point, yes I do want to invest in a better trigger like a CMC or Geissele. I do want to see how well it performs with the ALG though. I'll be shooting her son enough, so we will see.

It appears you and I came to the same decision recently. I also took advantage of the BCM sale and bought a 16" lightweight upper with the new KMR rail. I have a Geissele SSA-E trigger which completely lives up to the family name. I put a Razor HD Gen-II 1-6x24 with a BOBRO mount. Don't know how much you are looking to spend but I would definitely look into the Razor. Regardless that is a nice shooter you built, Cheers!
