Mods please move if this is wrong section.

The Gen3 Law folder came yesterday. As planned I installed on a 10.5" AR pistol. Fairly straight forward and only took a few minutes. Unit looks strong with clean machining. Locks closed with no wobble and folds easily. Release catch is small with mag release type berm to protect against accidental opening.

I decided to not use it for two reasons. First it adds to LOP beyond my preferred position. More importantly, I am not willing to give up being able to quickly pop open the upper. The bolt extension extends into folder making it neccesary to pull out the bolt to separate the upper.

But as I could see no reason the folder would not fit my Sig P556, I tried it and yes, it works great. That piggie is front heavy so extra length makes for better balance. And can be fired folded! At least I hope so. With no end plate the innards are open to the air folded. I need an opinion from a piston person whether that is a problem.

Gun fits nicely in padded Autoharp case. Room for 6-8 mags in front pouch. Larger rear pouch has backpack harness.http://www.amazon.com/Oscar-Schmidt-AC445-Autoharp-Gig/dp/B0002L52QY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408284635&sr=8-1&keywords=oscar+schmidt+autoharp+case

Gents -

Moved your post to the existing discussion about the Law Tactical Folder. Thanks.

I have a 14.5" that I've been considering as a candidate for one of these. Can someone explain the steps needed to separate the upper from lower, as you would do for cleaning?

Uffdaphil
17 August 2014, 09:18
It's not difficult, just takes a little longer. The Law bolt extension slides into the rear of the AR bolt caririer and has o-rings to seal tightly. To separate upper first fold open the stock. Then pull the bolt out rearwards holding the spring loaded stop to the side. Then usual AR separation.

Since my Sig is piston, I don't use the bolt extension at all. Extension tube becomes a storage cavity.

I assume you mean you remove the bolt carrier extension out the back, right? That makes sense, it doesn't sound too onerous.

I pulled the emtire BCG out with the extension. Maybe not the intended method?? But it worked.

I'm trying to figure out how you can get the BCG with gas key out that round hole. I'm obviously missing something!

Doh!! Chalk it up to senility. I had already transferred the hinge to the Sig and was mis-remembering. I pulled the BCG w/extension out together AFTER removing entire LAW assembly. Design is of course to pull carrier extension out only. I did not because I was taking all off any way and easier to separate after dissassembly. Good catch

Uffdaphil - have you ever fired the stock adaptor from a DI gun? I remember seeing stuff about this back from it's Gen 2 era. Been thinking about getting one for my future gun.

You can either remove the BCG extension from the BCG then separate as you usually would, or leave the BCG extension in place then push the takedown and pivot pins and move the upper forward and up at the same time. The BCG will clear the end of the lower this way as well.

Here's this pistol lower on the left compared to my SBR lower with the stock in the 4th position on a 6 position tube.

What is the lock up like on it? Does it have the typical play found in folders like an AK?

Uffdaphil

No wobble. The hinge is hefty and the latch, all metal, locks securely. Nice machining all around. Looks just about impossible to accidentally pop the release.

The only downside I see to the LAW Tactical is the fact it adds a few inches to the overall length when I'm shooting. I usually shoot with the stock collapsed all the way or on the first notch, so for me the added length is noticeable.

Good piece of gear for packing your SBR. Not for everyone at a few hundred bucks.

I am really glad I found this site. I have been considering the LAW in a big way. But I am planning an entire build around it so I am very glad I read through this.

Cool piece but I wonder what the length of a MK18 with this folded is? Maybe around 21"? When transporting my 14.5" broke down it's around 24". For me I guess I'd rather have a stamp.

I don't get some of those laws enforced in the northeast. Then again, I also don't understand why the New York Giants/Jets play in New Jersey but call themselves a New York team.

I don't think I'd last 2 minutes in Jersey.

i used it on my already obscenely expensive AR pistol.... It does exactly what i wanted it to do.

1. I can fit the whole pistol in a compact box now, no need to assembly a upper and lower. I can also backpack carry if needed.
2. It adds to the LOP in a good way IMO. With the sig brace and longer pistol buffer tube, it's a more usable LOP for me now while still being super compact.

Barrel length?

Kopis

7.5" noveske barrel with the KX3 flaming pig. The pig definitely takes some of the "crack" out of the report but of course it's loud. Everyone loves shooting it. We shoot on my farm a lot of weekends and once in awhile the cops stop in... they were in love with it and all took turns shooting it.

Ive never measured the OAL. We dont have any laws about that in AR/TN but i should probably know it. with just the regular buffer tube, it was a little short. The extended buffer tube and law tac folder make it a really good SBR type length of pull.

Thanks!

Funny thing is that I emailed them when the Gen 2 adapter came out and asked them to sell me one (at full price) before they were sold to the general public to do a T&E on and they told me to pound sand, I emailed them again for the Gen 3, got no response. I have no biases towards anyone, and I totally get the whole bit with companies doing their thing, so it'll be interesting to see if they fixed the issues.

Eh.

I had a Gen 3 for a bit on a 12.5" AR. It does exactly what it says it's supposed to do. However, it is a heavy SOB and I could not find a good reason to keep it. I don't travel armed with my AR through non-permissive environments, don't keep a rifle in my car, and don't find a non-folding AR SBR all that hard to tote around if need be.

YMMV, of course. :)

officer,

I didn't like the length it added personally. I normally shoot most stocks completely collapsed or on the first position. I couldn't get comfortable with the folder. Just a personal preference. Also, while I agree that it makes say an SBR even more ultra compact, I really didn't see the need for it personally. I'm not usually carrying my rifles around in a backpack. It's either in a gun case, range bag or deployed.

Mine was a Gen 2, and I already gave it away, otherwise I would have given it to someone that would have used it, like you.
