I'm part of a couple of other gun boards. Here's another project coming together for a guy we're helping out. A little backstory on him. He ran into a streak of bad luck like we all seem to do from time to time. However, his dog needed major surgery, and instead of even thinking about putting the dog down, he decided the dog was more important than his guns. So he proceeded to sell a large chunk of his collection to pay for the $3700 Vet Bill. Noble cause, so some of us decided to pitch in and build him a new rifle. He's never owned an AR15 patterned rifle before, but he's spoken of getting one and what a perfect time. Hope he likes it when we're done with this project.

I'm handling the upper receiver build, which so far consists of:

Fortis 14" REV Rail
Rainier Arms 16" MedCon Select Barrel
Rainier Arms Mil-Spec Upper
Rainier Arms NiB Carrier

When building Replaced the Bolt with a C158 bolt. Rainier Arms recently had a bad batch of them, so this one was replaced.

Lower Receiver almost finished. Waiting for a Rainier Arms MTG. The furniture is what we had on hand at this minute, but it may get changed out as some other things are in the works, and we of course want it to match the other accessories coming down the pipe. So far:

Rainier Arms Forged Lower
7075 T6 Mil-Spec Receiver Extension
H Buffer
ALG ACT Trigger
LPK
Magpul CTR, MIAD

Barrel came back from Gas Block Pinning. As usual, the smiths at Rainier Arms did a clean job. Also headspaced the bolt.

I would have liked the Rainier MTG to match the furniture, but it still looks good in black. The ALG ACT also stands out here. The furniture may turn into OD green thanks to FortTom however, we'll see how it goes.

Not too shabby. Very clean looking. What were you thinking of running for sights? And was this mostly a parts bin build?

The gun is basically done. Some of the other guys chipped in bought him an Aimpoint PRO. Huge upgrade to the Strikefire he had been considering for a reddot in previous conversations with him about other guns.

Another guy got him a set of Magpul MBUS for backups. Other than maybe a handstop kit/VFG and sling, this is ready to give to him this coming weekend. He's on his own for a white light. Pretty good defensive set up for one's first AR15 platform.

Mike,

I didn't see your question before. I mention in the previous response, I was going with the Magpul MBUS for backup sights as the other guys on the forum chipped in to get an Aimpoint PRO.

Some of the parts I had in the bin, others I had to purchase. Basically, I already had the Fortis Handguards, Rainier Barrel, Barrel nut and NiB Carrier. I had just picked up the Rainier Barrel several months earlier from someone who had shot the barrel for less than 50 rounds.

I had to purchase the gas block, gas tube, a C158 bolt, and the Rainier Arms MTG. FortTom donated the Raptor charging handle. Other than the MTG, that concluded the upper for me. Another buddy of mine donated a Rainier Arms Upper and other guys on the forum donated the lower and parts for it.

Here's the complete parts list:

Rainier Arms 16" Select Medcon Barrel
Rainier Arms Match Gas Block
Rainier Arms Mil-Spec Upper
Rainier Arms Raptor Charging Handle
Rainier Arms NiB Bolt Carrier Group with C158 Bolt
Rainier Arms MTG
Rainier Arms Forged Lower
Fortis Manufacturing RED
Fortis Manufacturing 14" REV
Magpul CTR, MBUS, MIAD,
ALG ACT Trigger
Aimpoint PRO
