Just bought the wife a G42 for passing her concealed carry course. I've heard/seen varying things about what ammo to use for a .380 being Hollow points or hard ball. If you have a .380 for defensive use, what do you load in the gun?

I use Speer Gold Dot ammo. The bonded jacket and the high-quality nickel case make for a great performer. I know some folks like to use hard ball in .380 but I prefer a good quality hollow point.

Interesting video on .380 ammo here (http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/07/daniel-zimmerman/shootingthebull410-380-ammo-quest-sequel-lehigh-defense-xtreme-penetrator/)

Anything loaded with the Hornady 90gr XTP bullet is about as good as it gets for .380

Hornady, Fiocchi, and a few other manufacturers make factory .380 loads using the 90gr XTP projectile.

Don't use anything over 90gr in the glock 42, just a heads up. My wife has a g42 and we have put probably 2k rounds through it so far and have found any ammo 95+gr tends to lock the slid back when firing. Happens pretty after with 100gr loads from freedom munitions.

Is your thumb hitting the slide stop? Or is the bullet itself activating it?

I load my Kel Tec P3AT with Cor-Bon 90 grain JHP.

I had the same problem riding the slide catch. The G42 is so small it's easy to do. Thanks for the heads up over 95gr tho!

Hydrashoks are also right up there with the XTP's (from the shooting the bull video). I couldn't find any 380 xtp, so I went with hydrashoks.

Barnes X bullet gets my vote.
