Been trying to figure this out, I know the Noveske gen 2 lowers are forged, and the gen 3 are billet, but they look almost identical. How can you tell them apart? Let's say you wanted a forged gen 2 and were only going off pictures, any clues to look for? Maybe i'm just slow [crazy]

Easiest way to tell is on the right side of the receiver. The mag button "fence" extends partially down the mag well on the gen 2s. Not so with the 3s.

Okay cool. So on the g3's it goes all the way down, vrs partially down on g2?

Gen 2's are also anodized vs Gen 3's are cerakoted. Gen 3's are lighter in color.

It's only around the mag release button on the Gen 3, it extends down on the Gen 2.

The picture helped a lot thank you.

I'd keep mine in bubble wrap too ;D

The bubble wrap is how you know it's not counterfeit.

I was not aware of this. It's a curious move as well...

When Sheri was still at Noveske, I told her I thought it was an odd move, because the cerakoted lowers don't match the anodized ones. People out there matching Gen2 lowers with Gen3 uppers probably weren't going to be pleased, especially the OCD ones.

I think some of the the thinking at the time was, they didn't have plans to sell the Gen 3 lowers stripped anytime soon. Obviously those plans changed.

Are the Gen 3's anodized and then cerakoted?

That's correct according to Chris at Noveske. Some of the local Cerakoters wonder how well the Cerakote will actually adhere without media blasting the surface to add texture.

When I talked to them the current MSRP on Gen 3 uppers was $316.

hahaha!!

I've also heard that some of the last of the Gen 2s were anodized and then cerekoted as well, not for sure positive though.

Rainier selling the Gen III lowers for $318 (out of stock). MUR uppers seem to be in the $230 range.

The $316 for a Gen 3 upper was straight from Noveske.

That's the price Chris quoted me to match a stripped upper receiver to my Gen3 lower.

GOST, $316 for the Gen3 upper.. the laser etched or the engraved markings on the receiver?

Don't know. I thought they were all laser etched till I saw what you posted. I like the engraved better.

No doubt. Won't lose any markings if user decided to cerakote it.

They must have decided that later. The 3 uppers I have are all laser etched.
