After winning the 18'' MDWS Wolverine barrel and ALG rail I had enough spare parts stashed that I only had to order a few items to get a functional upper going to see what this bad boy will do. First thing I done was placed an order with CMT for a UPR-4 and have been very impressed with not only the receiver itself but ease of purchase and fast shipping. In my parts bin I already had an MDWS NiB carrier and a BRT gas block and mel. mid gas tube I picked up from him as well, also an ARP mini brake and Vortex scope mount. A quick order with Mad Dog got me a NiB 5.56 bolt in the mail so I was all set, until I just realized a few days ago I forgot I had a port door but no pin and spring, oh well can pick it up later. Grabbed an old Burris 3-9x40 ill. dot that I've had forever and this puppy is rollin.

Nice my friend. Since you have a deer with the pistol it's time to get the 18" a kill in the books!!

I'm gone try to hold off and let the Wife get a deer with this one.
I'll be posting some more pics when mated to a lower and some testing pics. Hopefully a pic of the wife and her first deer with it will be in the cards as well.

Good luck... The deer are pretty much MIA around here... 80% were killed by black tongue this year so I'm SOL I fear...

Yea it sucks I haven't even seen a deer on the side of the road in over 3-4 months.

Sweet build. Any idea what you're going to do for the lower? Or are you just going to move around current lowers?

Looks like that came together quickly. Congrats again. Glad you're getting use out of it!

Thanks guys, it did throw together pretty quick with a lot of stuff already on hand and honestly I've been looking for a good excuse to pick up one of CMT's new uppers anyway. Unfortunately a new lower just isn't in the budget right now so I'll be shifting around some lowers for a while. I put her together today with my 6.8 lower and could tell a difference in weight right off the bat. With the ALG and the CMT being the biggest difference from my 6.8 upper it was noticeably lighter and I really like the small diameter of the ALG being able to wrap my whole hand around the rail.

Good looking upper build. I'm tempted to pick up one of those ALG rails like yours. For the price/weight they are hard to beat

The alum. barrel nut is so light it's scary. I think the 6 machine screws that hold the rail on weigh about the same as the nut.

Arrrrrrrghhhh! Ha..ha..ha. I got a .277 WLV piece to finish my upper also!.. I know GaSwamper knows this as well as another on this forum, but I bought an 18" SS barrel from one of the Stickman sponsors, MDWS, and bought an upper from new forum sponsor Aero Precision, but also won the last piece of the puzzle, an 15" Parallax Keymod hand guard to complete it. I'm right behind you, GaSwamper, as long as this unseasonably cold assed weather passes soon. Also, that deer was pretty impressive, 8 point if I recall. Since a deer is a lot tougher than a human to put down, I know that it will be a great varmint gun, as well as a "bad guy" bipod will not receive it in a friendly manner, also.[BD]

Caught a small break in the weather and was able to put some rounds down range. Nothing too in depth just some barrel break in and testing of the new factory ammo. Got her dialed pretty close and slung about 10 rounds, few cleanings in between and warmed up shot my last 4 shot group at 100yds. Note this is out the box barrel and factory 110gr. BTHP so I imagine I can tighten this up with some precision handloads.

Dang I wish I could bang out builds this quick!

I got every part and then some for my new build just collecting dust but waiting on funds to send it to a build shop.

Yes I know I should just buy the tools and build em myself.. Maybe one day :D

ADCO, Rainer Arms gunsmithing etc. Basically anyone with the skills, tools and experience that can take a lot of parts and turn it into a nice build.

I've built one before using household tools, a spikes build from parts.., and even though it functioned it looked like I had Parkinson's..,

Buy once, cry once.... I'm lucky go have most of the parts available or purchased them used pretty cheap.

Yes in general. I have access to a vise and torque wrench. I bought my own upper block, lower block and armorers wrench.

The tools I didn't buy I have 24/7 access too. His(FIL) tools are my tools.

I agree every real AR guy should have the means to work on his rifles, and it's on the "list" but I'd still have no way to pin&weld the muzzle, pin the GB or drill/tap a hole in my upper for the Noveske NSR...

So I'm just saving my pennies at the moment so ADCO can turn my dream parts into my dream build :D

You may also want to consider Rainier to do the work. They pinned both my GB and AFAB, and the work was top notch.
