I'm gonna pickup a used G17 next week. What upgrades to you all suggest? I don't think it has night sights so I'll change those and will also add a APL. Stainless steel guide rod upgrade needed? Any must haves?

3.5lb connector and night sights are all I do. Guaranteed must for me. I personally, don't feel the SS guide rod is worth it.

Cool thanks. To me Glock triggers are fine but I've never shot one with the upgraded connector. I'll try it out.

Stipple, undercut trigger guard, metal sights and lots of ammo :D

I just like an increase power trigger spring. I feel like the 3.5 connector doesn't give me enough of an obstacle after the take-up is removed. Best bet is to try different combos.

Are you going to carry it?

If not, I would recommend the Zev Tech Fulcrum trigger.

The reason I ask is that I'm not a fan of changing triggers on carry guns. Since you're not planning on carrying, everything I've used from Zev Tech/Glockworx has been great.

Also, the Vickers Tango Down extended parts are great.

Maybe I need some Battle Cock stippling ;).

Stippling makes a remarkable difference with Glocks. I personally don't need to undercut the trigger guard on a 17, but I like it on a 19. The guy who stippled mine also rounded the front strap a bit and it has made both my 17 and 19 incredible comfortable and I feel like my grip is much more solid.

I undercut and rounded my 34 and my wife's 19. My 22 stays completely stock with polished internals.

If you're not carrying, definitely go for the stipple. But if you're carrying, I would be careful where and how you stipple, or you will wear holes in clothes and skin.

Think I'm going with XS sights and have about 1000 rounds so far and I'll slowly build that up.

I suggest good sights and as much ammo and mags as you can swing. I don't think anything else is really necessary. Be careful with the aftermarket internals. Many a Glock have been made unreliable from "upgrades".

^^ Nice! I just do in between the finger humps and the back strap with a little extra texture, and I sand the backstrap where it rubs into my fat.

Thanks.

The sights are 10-8, Tango Down/Vickers mag release and polished internals with an OEM Glock 17 trigger. Texturing was done by EMS Gripswerks and Cerakote by Atomic Tactical. Everything else is stock.

Are you changing parts just to change parts, or to achieve a goal?

On my carry Glocks I've tried quite a few of the various parts, pieces, and modifications and find most to be snake oil. I'm not a fan of stippling/cutting the frame, machining the slide, or any of that other nonsense. For me, changing the sights is a must (to Trijicon HDs with green front) and after that it's gravy. My particular gravy includes changing the trigger face to a smooth one (comes standard in the G17, but comes serrated in all G19 and smaller) as I find the serrated wears on my office sissy hands, installing the Vickers mag release and slide stop, and that's it. I currently have a few fancy triggers but found they didn't do anything to improve my accuracy or times, so I wouldn't bother with them int he future. They subjectively "feel better" to my hand but the timer and the target don't lie, "feelings" do.

I look at it as upgrading. I'm doing the connector and slide stop right now as well as adding a light. Still on the fence about stippling although I may go at it later on. This is my first Glock that I wanted to mod and was wondering what most people suggest doing, hence this thread.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I am changing the sights also.

I upgrade the sights and that's it. Glocks are pretty good right out of the box. I'm a Glock certified armorer and I've seen a fair share of "upgrades" that did absolutely nothing for the gun. Whatever turns your crank I guess.

Im a poor man but here's what i did to mine:

Amerigo sights (green front, yellow rears). google glock coupon code, puts them under $100
factory extended slide release
factory 3.5lb connector
trigger spring kit
titanium extractor plunger (it's rounded so it smooths out the break quite a bit)

You can just do the trigger mods and really improve it a lot for around $50 or so with the 3.5lb connector and titanium plunger. I need to break out the dremel and do a polish job too.

I don't do many things to any of my Glocks. I put a good set of night sights and buy extra mags. For the 27 I put on +grips. With a plus grip it fits my hands and I get an extra round. Mine are work guns so I don't mess with the internals.

With the Gen 4's different grips and texture they did a reasonable job of taking care on the majority of complaints.

I was getting a couple cases ejected in my face yesterday. Any cure for that? Otherwise, it was a typical Glock experience, 200 flawless rounds.

Shoot it more. I had one that did that took about 500 rds or so to stop. You could also try different ammo

Well I went with some XS Big Dots and a TLR-1 HL. This is my first time messing with a stream light and I'm impressed. I couldn't justify another $200 for a SF. The 17 is coming together nicely.
