I mentioned in the "What'd you get for Christmas" thread, my dad put together a hunting trip for himself, my two brothers and me to have a guys trip. I'm out of college & the Army but they are still in middle school so it was a chance for some bonding

We are at Lynches River Outfitters, about 30 minutes outside of Florence, SC. It is a 1000 acre preserve, with tons of deer, turkey, geese, ducks, etc with a large pond/small lake to fish.

We arrived around 12:30 today and hit the stands around 2:30 to wait for dusk. The deer started moving around 4:30. I said I wasn't shooting anything today unless it was a large 8+point. I saw a basket 8, some spikes, 4 pointers, but the amount of does was crazy. At one point I had FORTY around me. I was in a stand with mostly 200+ yard shots because I was confident with my rifle and load and my zero/dope...my brothers and dad were in <150yd locations. My youngest brother pulled the trigger on a 10pt but the primer didn't ignite and the *CLICK* spooked it and ran off before he could cycle a new round. Huge bummer and a dimpled primer.

Anyways, some pics!

Lake/pond/aquatic habitat. Brother caught a 4lb bass on first cast so he stopped fishing lol

Very nice! Looks like a great place and a great time with the Fam. Really would like to set up a trip for me and dad one day but it's hard to get him on board when we have a 600 acre lease out the back door that we do pretty good on. Have tried tellin him lets just go cause its not the same and something ya just gotta experience to see the difference, guess I'll just kidnap him one day. How long ya'll gone be there?

I lugged my .308 in the woods last night and this morning and only shot a coyote, so I decided since my luck wasn't going to change (even though Id seen a TON of deer, I don't shoot little bucks so they have a chance to mature), I'd take my suppressed AR w/ 3.5x ACOG on the last outing to save weight and to just have the familiar platform back in my hands for more than just target shooting. I watched, recorded, and took pics of a BUNCH of turkeys running around, puffing up at eachother, etc from my 25ft ladder stand. About 15 minutes before dark, 5 does wander out. 4 were at about 250yds and one good size one was at 150yds....she drew the short straw and took a handloaded 64gr Power Point to the side of the head. Dropped like a rock. I figured she was a good size and only 2-3yrs old she would help fill the freezer at least. They can't all have big antlers.

In a few days I will have peppered deer jerky....can't wait....I eat it til my teeth hurt.

I'll get pics up in the AM.
