The Fortis Manufacturing (http://fortismfg.com/) REV II Handguard is now here. The biggest difference you'll notice is that the bottom picatinny rails have been replaced by KeyMods. Looks like they are going for an introductory price on Revolvr (http://www.revolvr.com/exclusive-fortis-revtm-ii.html). $159.99

Description:

Fortis REV (http://fortismfg.com/)™ II is an extremely lightweight yet robust free floating rail system. When designing the REV™ II, we’ve managed to further reduce the weight while maintaining strength by utilizing a 1 piece body design. KeyMods were are positioned at 3, 6 & 9 o'clock for modularity and additional weight savings. Its unique mounting system captures a standard AR15 barrel nut for easy installation. It is also piston compatible. Because of the anti-rotational tabs, the REV™ rail may not fit all uppers without slight modification. Fits most mil-spec forged uppers without any issues.

Specifications:

Material: Aircraft Grade 6061-T6 Aluminum
Finish: Military Specification Type III Hard Coat Anodized
Length: 12.375"
Weight 7.8 Ounces
Inside Diameter: 1.340"
Continuous Top Rail Rotation
Limited QD Sockets
KEYMOD at the 3, 6 & 9 O’clock Anti-Rotation Tabs (Fits Forged Uppers)
Uses Standard AR15 Barrel Nut (Not Included)

Made in the USA!

I still love the fortis rails, but I was really hoping for a bigger change.

Throw the suggestions out there!

I like the v2. I can do without the the QD at the end of the rails though. Who uses QD swivels at the end of the handguard anyway?

I don't get those either, but I guess it's a weight thing. Save an ounce by having 6 holes cut into the rail. And I like that they did away with the bottom rail. Wonder if they have MLOK plans?

I know I'll probably be flamed because this thing is in more photo shoots then a playboy bunny but I've never liked the looks of this rail.

To me it seems like it can't decide if it wants to be a quad or a keymod... But then again I'm heavily partial to tube style rails like the NSR, KMR and ALG..hey what do you know my 3 ;)

Not hating on the guys who got them, I'm sure their bomb proof like everything Fortis, just doesn't suit me personally

Yes... M-Lok is a few months out, but it's in the works.

Anyone got their hands on a Fortis Billet Upper yet? Trying to decide between it and the Rainer for my WEVO build in the wings. Both look good... Hmm choices choices

Yes!!..Always digging what fortis is putting out..

I had a a regular fortis rail and liked it, but for me just to damn tall..So i sold it.

This and the switch rail get my attention again, as they look much slimmer then the first gen or whatever....Im digging it...

Hope they offer some more lengths and maybe even some cerakoted options, ready to go. in like magpul fde. and the other magpul colors..

My Fortis Upper has been solid, nice lines, but I suppose that depends on your personal taste.

I figured that the v2 would have came out sooner. It looks good for the price. Wish they would get rid of the qd at the end and make the others look like the ones on the switch.

I wanted to get the Rainer Ultramatch upper for the WEVO build, and pair it with a RA adac lower but don't think they offer one w/o the mountains on em.. So dunno yet.

The issues with the original were always the fact that it felt like a 2x4 in your hand... unless that is you had huge hands. This feels much better in your hands. I could still do without the QD sockets at the end of the handguard. Just got it today, so I don't have any opinions from the range yet.

Just confirmed with Fortis today, that 7,9,12 and 14" versions are confirmed. For those that are familiar with the last 14" they offered, it was closer to 15. Other lengths and/or cutout versions may also happen.

The original REV will continue to be sold along side the REV II until stock runs out. They will be the same price.

I actually use the front QD with a 2 point sling on my DD ones that have them. My only Fortis is on a 5.56 so that pea shooter never sees field time. The bottom rail was about my only complaint with the original. I would have preferred a short rail section at the front over the full length rail but the keyMod is even better.

Question, speaking of Fortis, I got a switch rail burning a hole in my pocket. Toying with the idea of building a pistol. Anyone here know if the KX5 will fit in the 5.56 switch?

Yes the kx5 should fit. It's a pretty thin MD. Trade Ya a switch for Rev haha

The new job does look to be more comfy. My Gen 1 is relegated to bipod duty to minimize that 2x4 hand encounter. I find the REV and CMR to be the most distinctive looking in the sea of excellent recent rail offerings.

I'd give Geissele the eye candy Oscar though. Especially the pre-production MK4 a few lucky folks received.

Mmmm, I'd give to Geissele.

But I will say, the REV is a very distinctive rail too.

Since I have all three and love me some C4, DDLite, and RISII also, I obviously have committmemt issues. Love the KMR feel, but it is the least sexy to me.

I just finished a pistol build with one. Great looking upper and lighter than a lot of others on the market. Only bad thing is I think the rail is out of spec!!! It's to wide. Couldnt slide my Magpul mbus rear sight on it so I bought some Troys and was able to get them to work. Probably because they install diferently. Didn't think anything about it so I bought a red dot and mount for it and now the mount won't fit.

Sorry...my bad. Thought I saw a post in here asking about there billet upper. I have the Rev 14" and love it. But I think I would like the Rev2 even more. Slimmer profile and little less weight= more sexyness!!! I'd probably have to flip a coin to choose between the keymod or mlok. Love both of them.

That's a real nice looking rail. Is it just me or is M-LOK going to be taking over the handguard world? Not sure how anyone could still prefer the Keymod versions of any handguard (except the KM only KMR).
