Just seen that Ruger has released their new 1911, folowing in the sr1911 footsteps they kinda switched it up a little, now sporting a alloy frame in commander size for a more lightweight 1911 carry option..

Sounds like a good variant. Their night watchman series are pretty slick too. Kinda wish they shipped with an ambidextrous safety but it's not too tough to remedy.

Does it have a separate feed ramp? Says it has a aluminum frame, stainless steel barrel and a polished titanium feed ramp. I'm not familiar with a 1911 that the feed ramp was not either part of the barrel or frame. Will be interesting to see what this looks like.

Multiple ways of feed ramp set ups on 1911's. Machined in the frame, insert cut into frame or ramp machined into the barrel. Ruger is using the insert method.

I've never messed with one with the insert. What all companies use this method?

They went a different way by adding the insert instead of just a alum ramp, that will/would wear out quicker, how much quicker???

I'll be curious what the street price of these will be, the regular SR's in our neck of the woods are $580 give or take a few bux

I copied this from guns and ammo page

The SR1911 Lightweight (LW) Commander pistol incorporates a black anodized aluminum frame with a stainless steel slide to achieve its classy two-tone appearance. Ruger has addressed a problem all too common with aluminum-framed pistols by equipping the LW Commander with a polished titanium feed ramp to protect against excessive wear and resulting misfeeds.

I would really like one of these. It showed up in my Facebook news feed the other day. It really looks like a nice pistol. Well done Ruger.

Makes sense.

It does since the aluminum is softer..i dont know... i guess we will see how it holds up/works out for them......

I Had 2 SR1911's and they were alright for the price, mine went back 4 times between the 2 guns...just my experience with them.
