This is an old piece in my gun tool box. I have no idea what it is for:

It's ¾" from tip to tip.
It's either from a SA 1911, Ruger 22/45 or 10/22.
Any ideas?

I'm not sure if it's a tool piece or something, but I've held on to it just in case.

It's part of Springfield's ILS they use on their 1911s. Since the ILS doesn't use a mainspring cap pin, it goes into a hole in the mainspring housing to hold the mainspring cap in place when the housing is removed. If you replaced their locking mainspring housing with a normal one, feel free to pitch it in the round file.

Thanks! That ILS may come out sometime.

You're totally welcome; I think that's the only actually helpful thing I've ever posted on the internet.

Just make sure if you change out the MSH that you don't use the internals from the ILS, since the dimensions are different standard specs. You should do it; it only takes a few minutes and that internal lock is horrible. There are tutorials over on 1911addicts.com and 1911forum.com.
