I think I figured out the perfect plan. Buy someone's new 42 so that they can buy a 43, and buy a 43 in 2 years after I'm sure the bugs have been squashed.

I am wondering if they didn't delay the 9mm SS announcement from SHOT due to T&E issues. If they are trying to build a 9mm from a 380 frame there is going to be issues. Probably more than a heavier spring can fix. Much like the frame flex issue on the Gen 3 G-22's that were based off the G-17 frame.

I have to admit, I don't understand the fascination with a single stack 9. It's interesting that forever I carried a 1911 and all the Glock guys ever argued about was capacity. Now those same guys are all excited about a single stack. As always......whatever works for you is the important thing.

I'm pretty interested in one of these. Still baffles me why they would bring a 380 out first. I have my guesses why, but who knows?

I think the .380 G42 was developed as an engineering stepping stone for the 9mm. .380 is 9mm in diameter and is known in foreign countries as 9mm "Kurz" which is "Short" in German (correct me if I'm wrong). After making an operational .380 it was probably easier to move up to a higher power cartridge just by adjusting mass and springs rather than the entire gun. So basically it seems to me that it was just a good engineering decision.

Still very happy with my S&W Shield but I am interested in shooting the 43 once the bugs are worked out [:)]

That's an interesting take on it ~ and really does make sense once you put it in that perspective.

... I'm just not so sure if the $580 MSRP is justified ...

I was doing some recon on the 43x for the wife and this thread popped up. This is a bump for Luis and the guys here that remember him. RIP Luis...
