I originally wanted to get the upper, for economical training ... but I figured $600 (or however much RA's cost) could put you well on your way to just build your own dedicated .22 build.

My MOE edition 15-22 was a little over $500. So depending on optics you could have a full rifle with optics for $600 ish.

I considered that. But I also want to use it for plinking, thus I will be throwing a can on it, probably a pistol build.

i have a pistol in 8.4 inch and i have a dedicated 16inch but that is for hunting
i wanted another 16 inch just for training

I encouraged Rainier to offer not only a 16" upper, but a 9" as well or similar length. I think .22's in my opinion are not good options for "trainers" as they have different recoil impulse, weight, and ammo savings is negligible at this point. (to each their own of course) As far as a fun plinker though, an SBR .22 upper would be fun.
