Hey gang!

Just wanted to take a minute and share our new BCG we will be introducing. This is for people who want a traditional "mil-spec" style carrier with the benefit of Nitride. Same great specs! These are currently on sale as of now... $129.95

No product photos up yet, should be in the next day or so. First pictures below... More to follow and let me know if you guys have any questions! Photos by StuntGunner

-Carrier Material: Case Hardened 8620 Steel
-Finish: Black Nitride.
-Radiused Gas Key: 4130 Steel, attached with Grade 8 hardware and properly staked into a milled “valley” using a press stake to properly deform the metal, ensure proper positioning, and gas key locking. Permatex is used between the gas key and carrier before torquing to spec.
-Cam Pin: Hardened 4340 cam pin
-Firing Pin: Mil Spec firing pin made of 8740 steel, center-less ground and Hard Chrome coated
-Carrier fits AR15/M4 compatible style Rifles (i.e.) .223/5.56mm, .300BLK, 6.8SPC
-Laser Engraved Fathom Arms "spade" logo
-Bolt Assembly: The Bolt is “true” Mil-Spec dimension and external surfaces are CNC ground after heat treat for a precision fit. The bolt bearing surfaces are ground after heat treating to ensure proper and unaltered tolerances.
-Material: Case Hardened 9310 Steel, Shot Peened
-Finish: Black Nitride coated
-Extractor: 4340 Steel, Black Nitride coated, Mil-Spec Extractor Spring, O-Ring, and Black Extractor Spring Rubber Insert, Shot Peened
-MPI: Magnetic Particle Inspected
-HPT: High Pressure Test
-Bolts are lot tested under MIL-STD-1816 for both HPT and MPI
-Made in the USA

How does the Nitride finish compare to NiB in terms of lubricity when the carrier starts to get excessive carbon build up on it?

How does the Nitride finish compare to NiB in terms of lubricity when the carrier starts to get excessive carbon build up on it?

Saw this last night and I have been thinking about how to articulate it. The best way to describe it is "comparable". Both finishes offer lower friction and can be ran without lube. However, I do advise people to run our carriers with a little lube (even though most don't... DutyUse😃). Lube has a lower coefficient than ANY coating you use without it.

Nitride cleans great and carbon buildup comes off easily. A few members on here have our enhanced BCG and I'm sure they will verify that.

In the end, NiB is a plating. Nitride is a finish treatment. Nitride will not chip or crack and the design dimensions of parts remain as exact as they were prior to treatment.

Hope this helps and let me know if you need me to go further down the rabbit hole! 😃

I've never used nib so I have no reference to compare, but build up is negligible and slickness remains phenomenal.

I've literally had problems, if you could call it that, photoing buildup on my E-Nitride BCG as what little there is comes off as I handle the BCG. Here's what I could document after a 240 rd burn.

Here's what it looked like after I pulled it from the carbine that day. My gloves are accidentally wearing most of it now.

We like to think so! Both BCGs we offer are extremely well priced for what you get. A great deal of time is spent making sure every detail is right.

What is the round count on that BCG? ^

He is barely even through the Iron Oxide layer. That is more of a superficial part of the nitride. The Nitrogen Diffusion Layer is that shiny part you see. It penetrates into the metal approximately .0005" up to .0010".

That Iron Oxide layer usually wears like that within the first 100 rounds and stays looking that way for a while. Those contact points are probably SLICK right now.

Thanks for the info! I didn't realize the surface conversion was below the black part of it, I thought that was the majority of it. I did a ton of research on Nitrocarberizing and never came across that tidbit. Do you have any test sample BCG's with a high round count that you are willing to talk about? I am a huge fan of Nitrocarberizing but its very difficult to find any long term wear articles about it.

Finally found some Tula steel case locally. Not normally my favorite ammo, but wanted to shoot a couple hundred through the Fathom E-BCG before I posted my final thoughts. I expect it to chew it up flawlessly, which will push it over 1,000 lube-free rounds.
