AAC Threaded Barrel [Archive]

Hey Guys. I just got my AAC Threaded Barrel for my M&P CORE 9mm. BUT I cannot get the thread protector off the barrel to be able to stick it in my gun.

I'm not sure how to go about getting it off. I read soaking it in water might help? Any suggestions?

Definitely not water. Penetrating oil or a 50/50 blend of acetone and transmission fluid for a soak if needed. Likely applying heat to the thread protector to expand it slightly is all you need to do.

Are you turning it the right way? Does it have LH threads?

It is the LH twist threads the 13.5x1 LH.

I will have to get some Penetrating Oil then tomorrow. The only heat I have would be a hair dryer haha.

I only ask because I recall my very first LH Threaded barrel... didn't realize it was LH and when I thought I was loosening it, I was just tightening it. Oops.

Almost as bad as installing a muzzle break upside down. [BD]

I thought about Luis and his IRS situation today when I had to remind my girlfriends dad to call HR block.

ETA: I've been the butt (ass) of a joke or two around here. It's nice to pass the torch.

Not quite a bag of roll pins. A CMT upper (which I love) and a RAC (which I installed correctly). Still felt like a bag of roll pins.

All good :). I will let you know how I make out after I get some of that oil. How long do you guys think I should let it soak in there? A couple hours? Then just rinse it off with water? Sorry this whole thing is new to me, I just don't want to ruin anything haha.

Kroil is the best IMHO. I'd let it soak overnight.

Believe it or not no commercial product has ever come close to acetone/automatic trans fluid. Test after test I have seen it always takes the least amount of torque with that mix. Kroil is almost always 2nd. place but usually double the torque required. It's too unstable in a mixed form to be marketed. It separates very quickly. I keep a glass jar with a mix in it. Shake it immediately before use. Works 99% of the time in a few minutes.

Found the test results from Machinist Workshop magazine I was speaking of

Nothing = 516 ft. lbs.
WD-40 = 238 ft. lbs.
PB Blaster = 214 ft. lbs.
Liquid Wrench = 127 ft. lbs.
Kano Kroil = 106 ft. lbs.
50/50 blend of ATF and Acetone = 50 ft. lbs.

Thanks for all the help guys. I actually just got some WD-40 and sprayed it a bit and let it sit for about a hour and then I was able to get it to unscrew.
