I posted this up for another forum but figured you guys might want to read it as well.

I've been lucky enough to get my hands on both the MPX and the EVO3. Both are in 9mm with a (EVO) 7.72" barrel and (MPX) 8" barrel. I wouldn't say I did anything close to extensive testing on either platform. Just put some rounds through both and messed with the controls. Probably put about 150-200 rounds through each so basically this is a first impression review.

First, I can say that neither failed within that round count. Only thing I did prior to taking them out was strip them, cleaned the shipping oil off and then applied Slip 2000 on them. Both are fitted with an Aimpoint T1.

Comfort goes to the MPX. Everything about it is very comfortable in both hands. It's just a pleasure to have in your hands. The EVO, on the other hand, isn't very comfortable. When shooting, the safety digs into your trigger finger and it just feels cheap. Not saying it's cheaply made. It's plastic and compared to the MPX, which is metal, it just doesn't feel solid.

Controls has to go to the MPX as well. If you like the AR15 platform, you will absolutely love the MPX. And everything is ambidextrous. EVO is too but the controls are a bit different then what you are used to. When pulling the bolt back on the EVO, I found my knuckle hitting the Aimpoints mount which would get a little annoying. MPX has an AR 15 type charging handle. Again, if you are familiar with the AR15 platform, you will feel right at home with the MPX. I think that's huge.

Accuracy will go to the EVO. This thing was extremely accurate. At 50 yards I had 3 shot, 1" group. That was off a bipod in prone. I didn't have the MPX in a bipod which may have cause the accuracy to not be as good but the best 3 shot group I had was 2-3" at 50 yards. In all fairness, the targets were moving in the wind too. A little. I still have to give accuracy to the EVO.

Trigger goes to the MPX. It's fast. Way nicer then the EVO. But both have decent triggers.

Cost goes to the EVO. Half the price of the MPX but you can feel the price difference in the quality of the firearm.

So here's my outcome so far. If money isn't the deciding factor, I would go with the MPX. It's like you've been using the platform already with the controls the same as an AR15. I was dinging an 8" steel plate at 50 yards pretty rapidly resting it on my platform. It feels like it's built to high standards. I like that.

If money is a factor, then the EVO will get you where you want without the high price tag. It's accurate and fun to shoot. I'm sure some mods and furniture can get this thing a little more comfortable to use.

...I'd be happy with either.

I handled an EVO at the fun shop the other night and I would not mind getting an SBR version to carry around

They are both great. I just think there's more pros to the MPX platform.

I finger-banged the MPX at warrior east last year and it was pretty cool. As PDW, in the context of SBR + Suppressor, it is an awesome package.

Saw where Cabelas had the MPX on sale for $1699. What's the best price you've seen?

Watching with interest.... I would love to see more input on both. I've considered selling my 308 and directing funds to something like this and/or a tavor(don't know why I want one but I do)

I really want to like the MPX but I still have a hard time going with it when mags are $70 each while the Evos are $20. I can buy an Evo, a ton of mags, tax stamp, and ammo for the base price of the MPX. However if price was more reasonable I don't think it'd be close.

And it's a Sig... I have not had luck with their products the last few years.

Like I said, if money is any kind of factor, the EVO is the right decision. But I will warn you that if you have both in your hand, you'll forget about the price tag and get the MPX. $1700 is the cheapest you will find it but you'll wait. Most expensive I've seen is $4000. I see them coming down to $1500 closer to the end of the year but it's all speculation.

Gost, if you're ever in Michigan, hit me up

Would love to head up to MI sometime, a lot of cool people up that way. Been thinking about SBRing another lower in anticipation of the MCX uppers and this piece being released.

I personally don't like guns composed of two half-shells and fixated via (quite a few) screws (what is it with the Evo 3? 8 main screws?). Screws get loose.
Such a design may be OK for range and fun use but I wouldn't consider such a gun for serious use.
That being said the Evo 3 is a really sweet shooter. Not 100% on par with a MP5 but still one of the nicer SMG-type guns out there.

The MPX on the other hand seems to be a hard-use military grade SMG.

I had the opportunity of some range time with the MPX with Mato Matulewicz shooing and timing me trough some drills and although I only fingerf***ed the MPX a few times before, the commonality/similarity to the AR-platform, basically being a shrunk baby-AR, allowed me a pretty fluid transition. I was sold on the spot.
The (with nowadays available aftermarket parts getting kind of standardish) ambidextrous controls where easy to use firing from both shoulders.
Only thing I'd like to change is the angle of the safety, but this is a thing of someone that grew up with HK safety selectors for a few decades.

More MPX porn, please. I really want one. Any reliability or other issues so far? Sig has made a few missteps over the past few years, so I sense a lot of people expect Sig will have to work a few bugs out of the MpX, but I haven't heard of any issues since these hit the street.
