I went with Lantac for my 556 BCG since i wanted something a little unique looking but kept hearing good things about the cryptic coating coating (if that makes sense). My next build was an AR10 with FDE upper/lower and black accents so i thought the Cryptic coatings in mystic black would be perfect.

Called them up and spoke with Karen around may 21-22 and she said the 308s in mystic black were on backorder for about a month but i was waiting on other parts so i figured WTH, I'll wait. Plus the Aero NiB was backordered too and the same price. She ended up giving me 10% just because she liked me and i sent her a funny oatmeal cartoon about dogs (http://theoatmeal.com/comics/dog_paradox)

I was feeling kind of sketch about their program since she took no payment info from me and promised to call when it came in. I thought yeah right... Anyway, the next monday she calls and said the 308s came in early and promptly took payment info and got it shipped out. Luckily the rest of my parts came in that week too. Long story short, A+++ for customer service.

BCG impressions:

I have a Salient TiN BCG, two Lantac Enhanced BCGs and my friend has a spikes NiB plus quite a few others. No, i dont think anyone "needs" these fancy coatings but they make your BCG d@mn easy to clean and i like a clean BCG. plus they look bad @ss and that's important to being tacticool.

The toolcraft in 308 has some sharp lines to it. Not as standard looking as i thought it would be. The machine work is just perfect on it. Can't see any flaws anywhere on it. The coating is just unbelievably slick. I "feel" like i can tell a slight difference when compared to the NiB EXO on the Lantacs but that could just be in my mind. I hear a lot of AR10s have trouble during break in but mine ran flawless.

Overall since most 308 BCGs with a coating are in the $275-350 range, i think it's a good value considering the apparent quality of the toolcraft BCG and amazing cryptic coating. In 5.56, i dont think it's as good of a value since it's essentially a $70 BCG with a $170 coating. (albeit really good coating). I like the engineering improvements in the lantac and the EXO NiB is pretty good too. I also got my Lantacs for $220 but even at PA's price of $270 for a lantac vs $240 for the cryptic, i think the lantac is worth the extra $30.

Pics of course, feel free to PM or ask questions.

The CVD/PVD process that cryptic uses on their Black Mystic and others are damn near black magic. It makes NiB look bad in comparison, especially when you see how easy it is to clean up.

I wouldn't say it makes NiB look bad but it's definitely better especially if you're looking at standard NiB. Lantac has a new EXO coating that is pretty close and has a .02% coefficient of friction compared to Mystic Black's .01%.

After handling both, I would give the edge on the coatings to cryptic. For me on my 556 stuff, i preferred the engineering improvements on the lantac over a coating that is .01% slicker. On my 308 BCG, i think the cryptic is the best value and BCG on the market hands down.

I stated that in comparing the Cryptic to Fail Zero and WMD NiB, I haven't handled the lantac (yet) but I've heard it's a different process that produces better results.
