This is my first time building an AR. Let me know what you think or if you have any tips and ideas. Thankshttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08/15/520549af9c460fa2aa300c70d325e455.jpg

Specs
BCM KMR 13
Spikes Tactical CHF Barrel
Phase5 Muzzle Brake
Spikes Tactical Forged Upper
Spikes Tactical Nickel Boron BCG
Spikes Tactical Mid Length Gas Tube/Low Pro Gas Block
BCM Gunfighter Mod3 Charging Handle
Troy Flip Up Iron Sights

It's on a standard lower right now that my dad had laying around. I just got a spikes forged lower, spikes buffer assembly, and a cmc 3.5 drop in. I'm waiting on a few more odds and ends but its almost done.

Great looking first build!

You'll probably hate that grip.

Yeah I'm looking at the BCM Gunfighter Mod1 grip. I'm not a big fan of the angle on the standard grip. I'm also torn between a handstop or an AFG. I want to keep the rifle pretty sleek since I was going for a minimilist kind of build. I'm not even sure what kind of optic if any I want to put on it.

Well, I am with you on the angle. I find the more vertical grips a large improvement. I found the BCM grip to be too thin but I have big hands

Good looking rifle and welcome aboard. The Mod 1 causes me choke up farther than I like since it doesn't have the finger index. It ends up putting pressure on my middle finger. I like the Mod 3 better.

Thanks for that little bit of product knowledge. I will definitely be looking into the Mod3

The Mod 3 has more girth than the previous Mods to address that issue, is also $8 cheaper.

Arisaka fingerstop, you'll thank me later. For a long time I dismissed it as a part I never thought I'd like. It is now one of those parts that is on every current and future build.

Just looked it up and it's exactly what I'm after. Thanks! It'll be a great addition to my rifle.

I'm not even sure what kind of optic if any I want to put on it.

What distances are you realistically going to be shooting? What kind of shooting do you have in mind? IE Short range (100 yards and in) or longer range?

Just an idea for a simple but good (and very reasonably priced) optic would be the Bushnell 1-4x Throwdown. Running a magnified optic has pros and cons but there are more pros than cons for me. That said in different scenarios a fixed optic like a red dot would be good.

I just put 100 rounds of 55gr through it and didn't have one problem. But that's all I've shot so far.

Yeah I've been looking into the vortex viper pst since I'm already planning another build. I'll have one with a red dot and one with a magnified optic. I can't just have one rifle haha. If I end up going with a magnified optic on this build I will probably switch my iron sights to the offset iron sights.

Looks good. Quality build but without the bling price. Should serve you well for a lifetime if properly maintained.

I'm gonna go against the grain a bit though. My bcm lower had a mod 1 but I personally find the MOE k2+ just about perfect and replaced it. The only thing better in my book is a stippled UC grip.

Why do you prefer the magpul grip over the other ones that were mentioned?

Be careful listening to advice on grips. It is 100% subjective. I for 1 seem to go against the grain as I prefer finger grooves and a soft rubber compound.

The BCM line of grips is fine, if I wasn't an AR parts hoarder I probably wouldn't have replaced it.

I agree with Sinner. Grips are highly personal. I'd suggest trying to get your hands on as many as possible before buying.

Very true, even if he likes it to feel soft and rubbery with places for his fingers.[BD]

I like my AFG a lot. It's very comfortable to use. i will put one on my pistol build also later on. Gotta finish the pistol first though.
