Well known for their hunting and target bullets and ammunition loaded for those purposes, Nosler is now branching-out into the defensive ammunition market, including loads for handguns and rifles. The focus of this article is the Nosler Defense 9mm Luger (+P) 124 grain Bonded Tipped ammunition.

The 124 grain bonded projectile loaded in this ammunition has a large, rounded polymer tip that Nosler claims “initiates expansion, prevents clogging and ensures reliable feeding.” Nosler also claims that the hollow-point cavity design is “optimized for predictable expansion and penetration.”

The brass cases for this ammunition are head-stamped, “NOS 9mm LUGER +P”. The primer pockets are neither crimped nor sealed and there is no sealant at the casemouth. The round is charged with a “flake” powder.

Nosler advertises that the 9mm Luger (+P) 124 grian Bonded Tipped load has a muzzle velocity of 1200 FPS. I chronographed the load from a Glock 19 with a factory original 4" barrel over an Oehler 35P chronograph. The muzzle velocity was 1115 FPS with a standard deviation of 9 PFS.

I evaluated the accuracy of the Nosler 9mm Luger (+P) Bonded Tipped load from a distance of 25 yards using a Colt 6450 with a free-floated Noveske barrel.

When using hand-loads topped with the Hornady 125 grain HAP bullet, my Noveske barreled Colt 6450 has turned in 10-shot groups at 25 yards that have extreme spreads of less than a half-inch.

A 10-shot group of the Nosler 124 grain Bonded Tipped ammunition fired from the Noveske barreled 6450 at 25 yards had an extreme spread of 1.078”.
