View Full Version : Need Opinions for SW Shield Trigger

A buddy of mine bought a Shield in 9mm. Played around with it and liked it. Except for the trigger. Don't know why, but when I shoot it, my trigger finger tends to wrap around the trigger to where my first knuckle is touching the center of the trigger.

Shot groups are still good. Just don't like the trigger.

So, since I'm planning on buying one (do to my dept now allowing more variety of firearms for off duty carry), any good trigger upgrades? Kind of tired of Glock since I already have a G19 and G26.

APEX makes the best replacement as far as I know... but...

I have a Shield .40 but I never replaced the trigger... researched it, but never 'pulled the trigger' so to speak. I'm kinda leary towards any modifications made to a carry gun, much like I will not carry it with reloads. Might be internet myth, but why chance it is my opinion.

The Shield is one of the most comfortable sub-compact pistols I've shot. If you're willing to do the Apex trigger swap on it, it's a fantastic gun. I swapped the trigger and put in 10-8 sights on mine, along with a half-assed stippling job (that will be re-done soon.)

How much filing did you have done on the 10-8 sight to fit your front dovetail?

I sent one of mine to Business End Custom for sights and a trigger job. He works magic on the trigger using the factory parts.

It's been so long now that I don't remember. I've never found the 10-8's to require too much work to fit though.

Getting the factory sight out on the other hand....that's a chore without a sight pusher.

I feel the same way about the factory S&W triggers, they're gritty and too heavy for my taste. The apex trigger kits work wonders. They're a requirement for any M&P I buy. I've installed 3...about to do a 4th.

Same here. I have two with the Apex. My compact 9mm has the Duty/Carry.

I shot a buddy's Shield with the Duty/Carry trigger upgrade and its heaps better. I picked up this gem at Vance Outdoors; Merry Christmas to me. $289 with the program pricing, so the Apex is a no-brainer.

Nice, congrats Joel! I'm jealous. Even though we have the glock 42 & 43 I'd like to add the shield to the rotation.

Our fullsize mp9 with the Apex flat trigger is the nicest shooting pistol we have, I think the trigger is even nicer then our PPQs
