They are all so close in tolerences and quality anymore it really comes down to aesthetics. I do like the ones with the Ambi mag release built in.

I have two sets of CMT and I can tell you that you won't find a better bunch of people. Jeff Cross doesn't know me from Adam but he offered to engrave my lower for free as a Christmas present. Tells you all you need to know about that man.
As far as the fitment of them... they are truly top notch. They are a known at this point and I really like them.
I also like that they don't use roll pins. I can put a lower together and take it apart in no time without using a hammer.
Also their logos are pretty subdued. I don't like skulls and other out there kinds of things offered by some.

This.
Obviously, I can't speak enough for the quality of CMT & SMOS, but I also like Mega and San Tan Tactical. Like SINNER mentioned, just go with the one you like the looks of the best, and then figure out if you need/want ambi controls and go from there.

I hate to sound like a parrot but I really favor the CMT sets. The San tan set I had was also excellent

I'm very happy with my CMT billet receivers. I have one lower, and 2 uppers. I am partial to CMT since the make a lefty upper. I sold my San Tan Lower because I bought a grenade version and it had a bit too much slop for my liking.

For first set: CMT SSA with CMT upper of choice or either SOMOS sets. Classic tool designs.
BAD if you want a set that looks like a mechanized future, verging on fashion more than tool. IMO.
I have all three and like them all.

Can't add any real info as no billet sets here, but as others said I don't think you can go wrong with most said already and off the top of my head
Cmt, Mega, San Tan, Fathom, BAD, RA,Smos,

I have a Mega, Spikes & CMT billet set and by far my favorite is the CMT. I might be biased because CMT makes a left hand upper the way God would have wanted.

Of the ones you and others have mentioned......CMT and don't look back. CMT SSA (https://www.cmttac.com/AR-15-Receivers/AR%2015%20CMT%20Billet%20Lower%20Receivers/UHP15SSA-SSA)

+1 for CMT. A buddy of mine has a Mega Ambi set, and I really like it as well. I also have an SMOS set that I'm very fond of. Basically just beating a dead horse here...

I have a CMT lower and I can't find parts like bolt catches, or forward assist devices to match their machine work. My next set, if I go with billet again, will likely be San Tan/Fathom.

Not even the Forward Control Designs' ?

Only thing I have to add: Be aware that some billet sets with enlarged trigger guards are not compatible with gen 3 Pmags. Some enlarged trigger guards (seekins for example) will prematurely hit the shelf on the spine of the gen 3 mags that prevents over-insertion (I forget what its called) and will prevent the magazine from fully seating in the magazine well.

CMT is great, I would also put another vote in for Mega or San Tan. I would also not rule out the Rainier Mod 3 lowers, find one that has the features and aesthetics you like and don't look back. Really can't go wrong with any of the brands already listed.

The one I have (kitteh), the bolt & mag release are cross hatched, rather than grooved.

CMT lowers have the straight cut serrations, the Rainier lowers have the cross hatching. The Rainier's have a slightly different mag release but with some slight machine work they could be retrofitted. The ambi bolt release appears to be identical and should be easily swapped for the straight serrated one.

Pretty sure it was made for Rainier by CMT. Nonetheless, bad call making something that nothing matches up to, however small the detail. I don't regret buying it, but I did learn to look closer before making a purchase of a premium lower.

I've never even noticed this until you mentioned it.
Then again, I guess I never cared. [:D]

Another thing to consider is compatibility with PDW stocks. The CMT doesn't have QD mounts below the buffer tube, while the Rainier and I think San Tan do.

I think your OCD is worse than Alamo's in this aspect... [BD]

In the end, it's your hard earned cash... you gotta make yourself happy with your purchase. Maybe look at Northtech Defense.

Try out the Superlative Arms LoPro Piston, if that's the way you're going to go. I've been using the kit for awhile, back when they were working with Syrac, and it just keeps shooting and shooting.
When your .277 starts malfunctioning, like we all know it will, talk to dstrbdmedic, he knows how to get it running again. LOL

Well I guess it's fitting you two can come up with how to make your .277 run. [:D]
As for nicknames... I can only imagine they're only half as good as the meme's we come up for him.

It's not pretty, but man it works great. Fits your support hand nicely, and obviously no need for rail covers at that location. Better design than I thought it would be. Downside of course, is if you like using AFG's or VFG's, there is no place to put it, except really close to the magwell.
