I am looking to buy my first tactical vest. Can anyone suggest good makers, what to look for and a good sit to get it from? Thanks

Head on over to SKD Tactical and give them your money.

Are you looking for a plate carrier or just a simple magazine chest rig?

Chest rig something I can attach a pistol holster to and carry a few spare mags

Generally, attaching a pistol to a chest rig, IMHO is not a good idea.

If you don't have a need to carry any armor I'd highly suggest running a belt system. For me personally its a lot more comfortable and I can get to my reloads and pistol much quicker. I've got one from HSGI that I really like

This.

I have a belt from Tyr that works very well. Personal preference.

There's several versions of "battle belt" type sleeves that allow you to add your own belt, molle mag pouches, FAKs, holster adapters, etc...

I have an Eagle M/Ciras that I've been contemplating on upgrading since it's been really uncomfortable lately , oh wait I got fat never mind .
But in all seriousness I run a HSGI suregrip belt at the range that I love , everything is in my work space except my only issue is I'm a southpaw so mag placement is weird being my sidearm is on the right .

Tell that to Billy Connolly.

What will this be used for? Usage will, or should, dictate what is recommended.

LOL - actually, if you look closely you can see the suspenders connected at the rear where the IFAK is located. The rest is folded down for the photo. The 1911 is on a thigh rig and folded up into the picture; you can see one of its' buckles under the muzzle device.

Don't let Jerry fool you. You should see him lug it up and down the range checking targets....
