View Full Version : Best Barrel Value For The Money

I'm looking for a decent quality barrel that won't break the bank for a "beater" gun that'll be used as a general purpose fun gun. Off the top of my head, Ballistic Advantage comes to the front of the line for high quality and value. I was thinking of one of their QPQ 16" middy barrels with a lo-pro gas block. At right around $200, it seems like it'd be tough to find a better barrel for the money.

Any suggestions for a barrel that will offer equal or better quality and features (including the gas block) for the same amount of money or less?

Interested to see your version of a "beater" gun. [:D]

Ballistic Advantage is better than decent in my opinion, especially the ones they put on sale every month. They would be worth a look. I also like the Faxon Barrels.

This, ballistic advantage or faxon. Just used a Hanson profile stainless 16" .625 on a light weight build and it's oh so sweet!

Check out aimsurplus for both of these. Prices are good and ship free I believe

First to mind for what your asking you ....Ballistic advantage,

EDIT: code for first time buyers still appears to work code - SAVE10NOW

Just put a 16" pinned gas block and was like 170 something shipped, seems like a no brainer..they have a 14.5" on sale for less.. One day I'll try one out, got one melonited barrel I need to shit more, it's a little more then your talking but so far my 16" mega 556 barrel has been very good, really need a better scope and sit down with it

Go with the Ballistic barrel. Excellent quality from what I've seen, including the pinned GB.

The Silver Aero pistol is our beater and it uses a Ballistic 10.5 "modern series" qpq barrel and BCM BCG and a bunch of leftover parts. I don't think I've ever cleaned it honestly. It only sees wolf and works well. For a beater I couldn't be happier. Good luck on the project

It'll definitely be considered a quality rifle by just about anyone's definition. The components will all be of high quality. They'll just be parts that i've got a deal on or are relatively inexpensive on their own. High-end, yet budget. [BD]

You rock! Thanks for the discount code! I was leaning toward Ballistic Advantage, but that discount code sealed the deal! $184.50 shipped, and that include a pinned lo-pro gas block!

Which barrel did you end up getting from BA?

16" 5.56 Government Profile Midlength Barrel, Modern Series (http://ballisticadvantage.com/16-inch-556-gov-mid-cmv-modern-barrel.html). I really wanted a Hanson, but they were OOS. This will do nicely, though.

I've been waiting for a Hanson for a few weeks now. Hoping I get lucky and it goes on sale.

it's on sale if you want one in 7.5". It's their "Barrel of the Week" (http://ballisticadvantage.com/7-5-inch-556-hanson-pistol-cmv-performance-barrel.html).

I have been fairly pleased with my Radical Firearms barrel, but there was a LOT of shit talking on TOS about them having an issue with the barrel extension. For 60 bucks though I don't have anything bad to say about my 10.5" 300BO barrel from them., and I have not experienced any issues with the barrel extension on my barrel.

Can't go wrong with BA though, I have an Aero with one of their barrels in a 7.5" and it performs well for a shorty.

I'm about to release a barrel.....

16" Middy 1/7 4150V Nitride 5.56 $144.99. Our low profile 4140 Nitride blocks run about $35. They are blind drilled and honed to within .001 for a good seal. Customers that buy both from us get the barrel dimpled, for the gas block, for free.

Just saying.....[:D]

You don't say. Would be a pity if one of those barrel/gas block combos found their way to my house for use with my Spade BCG. I'd hate to have to build another rifle. [BD]

Could we add the option of having the gas block pinned?
Do I smell a potential group buy?

The barrels are available now. I just haven't had time to do a proper release and put them on the site. We do build complete rifles for customers and they have our lifetime warranty as well. But again, no time to load them up!

I don't know about mustang, but I'm in the market for a lighter profile barrel. Any chance you guys will make a 13.7" [BD] If not, I'd probably pick up a .625 16" middy if you will be making those. Do you know anything about twist rates on these yet?

Sorry for the bombardment of questions! Just excited to see what you guys are going to offer [:D]

I haven't even assembled the upper yet. Things have been a bit hectic around here as of late. But, if it shoots anything like the last BA barrel i bought, i'm expecting good things.
