I need a little assistance, I have a couple of 16" rifles that I have the Daniel Defense 12" Lite rails on:

and I have just purchased an LMT 10.5" upper (http://www.lewismachine.net/product.php?p=68&cid=6&session=9870315b373bc78835cbf069d181855f) for my new SBR.

I am trying to find the longest rail possible (I will be milling off the front sight post, and using a flip up on the rail), that will still allow me to add a Noveske KX3 (http://noveskerifleworks.com/cgi-bin/imcart/display.cgi?cat=11) or a suppressor.

I am thinking about the Daniel Defense 9.0 Lite rail (http://www.danieldefense.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=74) as I really like the 12 rails above, but it still leaves 1.5" of barrel, and I thought I had found the perfect rail in the Daniel Defense MK18 RIS II (http://www.danieldefense.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=111) but it doesn't look like they make the damn thing in black and I really was hoping for an all black rifle.

I saw Robb's thread swapped rails on my 10.5" SBR (http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=26289) and the MK18 RIS II would be perfect if it was black.... is the longest I can get in black the 9" lite rail?

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Cameron

cameron,

i just went through this process.

from all my research a 9in is the longest that you can use. now you can get away with 10in rail and the kx3 but your can will not work.
there are a few rails out there that a can will fit inside, i belive mi or troy. you could also use a vtac or pri tube.

i ended up going with a 10in rail and i am getting a barrel cut down to 11in so i have very little extra barrel sticking out.

I called DD and spoke with one of the guys, (great customer service BTW) and I am going with the 10" Lite rail.
The KX3 will be slightly covered by the end of the rail and I will have to use a slip wrench to tighten the flash hider as the rail will cover the flats.
I will order the rail and KX3 today.

As long as its only the flats you are good to go. The KX3 won't fit inside the LITE rail, but fits inside the DD M4 rail without any problem, which means its all a matter of what you are looking for.

Here is a DD M4 12.0 on a 11.5" barrel.

That looks great Stickman, I am getting excited to get the shortie, I just got the email confirming Bravo Company shipped it!

I am thinking I will do the 10" LITE rail and add the KX3, as I like the lite rails on my two rifles above.

If the KX3 is what you want, that will look extremely nice completed. The wider part of the krink should be just under 1/4" out from the edge of the Lite rail on a 10.5"

Suppressor is out for the moment, but it shouldn't be hard to swap it for a 9.0Lite, Mk18RIS-II, or Omega-X 9.0 down the road.
