I've got a strange one here that I figured some of you lot might have the answer to. I have a lake on my property with about a quarter acre island in it. I want to build a rope bridge out to it and build a bonfire pit on it and a little Cowboy bunk-house. I want it to be really basic, like the one in the opening scene of the old film Silverado. A place to roll up into if you get too drunk fishing from the island on Saturday night. There is a pot belly stove in that scene/cabin, and I can't locate one like it. Do any of you know who made it and if there are any out there for sale, or reproductions like it? Thanks all.

Not a pot bellied stove in that video. It's a Box King #22 wood stove. Had one in the shop at my first house. Pretty small stove that required constant attention. Pretty much had to keep it glowing to get any real heat out of it. Company that made it was in Alabama or Louisiana IIRC.

@SINNER: God Bless you Sir! I don't care if it's efficient. This structure is about fun. If anyone gets too darn cold they can walk back across the dam to the house. I will seek this thing out. You just answered a question I've been searching for the answer to for half a decade. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Who woulda thunk Tractor Supply sold so many stoves?

By God! If I can't find the Cowboy Original, this is the one that's going in that shack! http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/united-states-stove-cast-iron-logwood-stove-large

Many thanks Joelski.

This island will become the get-away so the women can't yell at us for getting drunk on Saturday Night. That's what this really is. Eggs, bacon, and Cowboy coffee before having to go back and face the wrath. :)

This is the raw material. There is about a 12 foot draw behind the island to make the rope bridge across too. It's 25 feet deep. Good bass lake.

Those basic cast iron stoves just got outlawed by the frucking EPA this year. Its how I heat my place in paradise. I actually bought an extra before the ban and no I wont sell it. Forget the bridge and do a rope raft like the one in Jose Wales. Easy way to get your building supplies accross and a fun way to get out there once your done. I build bridges for a living, whats the span?

I need an island, or at least a boathouse, but the real advantage is I didn't have to change my world, I changed women. ;)

Got the water feature

I can't wait until constructing a bridge to my island is on my to-do list. Lucky bastard.

Hah, This!

The closest I've gotten to owning a private island was maintaining a park on one in the middle of an 8k acre ranch back in my ranch hand days.

Where at? I spent time on a 25k acre ranch out in ten sleep, Wyoming back in the early 2000s. Feels like a lifetime ago, but the experience and the memories of truly blissful solitude working out in Gods country are almost like a treasure to me.

That particular ranch was in the hilly gold country of Northern California. That was the nicest piece of property I ever worked. They had a private lake that they kept stocked for a fishing club, the best water rights for 100 miles, and an old gold mining town up on the back side. ...aaaaand about 50 miles of barbwire to mend. @Stone, the lake and dam was built in 1951 in a horseshoe layout and over the decades the back side of it erroded and washed out creating the small island. There is about a 20-25 foot span to bridge. We call it "snake island" and I'll need to go through it with a .410 or something and clear it out of water moccasins. The snakes are why I want a rope bridge. There are small kids in the family that will be fishing there. If it was older kids and adults only I'd just use a john boat. As to the stoves; dad-gummit! EPA runing all my fun. I guess I'll just have to buy a modern stove.

@SINNER, thank you for the compliment. Joelski's place blows mine away as far as beauty though.

It's just dirt, trees and sky, my friend. Fresh air is what it's all about. Peeing off the back porch is over-rated; I'd rather take a shit on Gifford's front porch. [BD]

@Joelski; Interesting you should mention poopin' in the woods (or portch as it were). A buddy of mine came out and we shot on the range for a few hours then built a bonfire and pulled out a bottle of whiskey. About 11 P.M. he couldn't hold out any longer so I pulled out a hand shovel and roll of TP I keep in my truck and told him to run off into the woods a bit and dig a hole. He comes back 15 minutes later pissed off as all get-out! He happened to pick the same spot another buddy of mine picked a week earlier. LMAO! Boy he was hot! He had poop all over his hands. LMFAO!

P.S. Needless to say I fell out of my chair laughing, dropping the whiskey bottle in the process. He went down to the lake and washed up. :)
