View Full Version : UPS/FedEx v. PO Boxes

So... Many may not know, and after certain events that have transpired, I want to help inform the masses. UPS and FedEx do NOT deliver to Post Office boxes. FedEX is pretty good about letting the customer know this fact. UPS on the other hand, well they would rather collect the revenue and have customers find out later. I'll spare the rant about breach of contracts and amending contracts without parties consent, but if you should happen to accidentally ship through UPS to a PO box, there are 1 of 3 things that usually happen.

Option 1, they keep the package at the closest hub, where they usually update the status as "undeliverable", and then mail a postcard to the PO box address stating it's available for pick-up at the hub. These hubs in some instances may be over an hour or more away. You might be able to change the address of delivery if you sign-up for a UPS account, but then they want to charge you more, because it's not the "original destination" which they couldn't deliver at to begin with.

Option 2, they "return to sender", and then they'll refuse to refund the sender for UPS's inability to deliver to an address, that they knew before entering into the contract they were unable to perform. If you're with the UPS and reading this... There's no f#$%ing written language possible to deem a contract valid to claim the ability to perform when you knowingly can't perform. As a matter of fact, it violates numerous contract laws at both local and federal levels. Fortunately for you, people are rarely motivated to organize enough to challenge you legally. I lied, I did point out how they're retarded about basic contract law. [bash]

Option 3, they pull an even more f#$%ed up move, which I discovered and barely caught in time today. They try to look up an address on file and/or on the "web". Yeah, that's right, they said they try to look up on the web, as in Google and sh!t. Then they do an address change on the package, WITHOUT contacting either the sender or the recipient, and ship it to that address... even though that address might be over 5+ years old and 45 miles away. It's even more amazing as they've delivered numerous packages to the recipients said new address since moving, but nope, instead they point out how people don't update their new addresses with them, so now the blame somehow fall upon the recipient, for UPS's own illogical and asinine actions. Hell, before they even knew whether it was delivered or not, they insinuated that the recipient should drive an hour south to the old address and try to retrieve it themselves, because after all it must be his fault that some moron changed the address to an old one they found on the interweb or their system, which I might add had his phone number, but why waste 60 seconds worth of phone time?!

So, in exiting my rant... I've noticed that very few sellers ask the buyer for their phone number anymore, or for a physical address if their sending it UPS or FedEx. To avoid possible catastrophes and a gorilla looking at people across the counter like he's going to start breaking sh!t if they don't find his package, please be aware, and ship appropriately.

Rant over... [crazy]

I've bought a few things that go through something called "ups mail innovations" where it moves from the sender to the recipients PO via ups then delivered by the usps. But I think that's a predetermined shipping method. I believe fedex has a similar service, never used either, just had stuff shipped to me that way.

Never heard of option 3, but I'm surprised they can say that's an option with a straight face. I can see where I'd be ready to choke someone.

Mailboxes etc.

Most UPS stores have a mail box service that is a normal mailing address. I set one up in close proximity to each of my projects so I can have packages delivered. Almost impossible to get deliveries on projects that are not even on a map yet.

I've had much better luck with Fedex over the years with on time delivery and service vs UPS. UPS is frequently falls short, and no fucks are given when you upgrade and pay for overnight or 2 day and they're late.

I cut ties with UPS after I made the mistake of telling them I was shipping a scope. Not a gun, not a bomb, not a grenade...a scope. You would've thought I had yelled "BOMB!" cause they lost their shit. 40 minutes of my time and 4 phone calls later and they got the OK to make an exception. Yeah, my money goes to USPS now.

We use UPS to move large quantities of equipment and I've only rarely had issues with delivery. But then, I don't have to worry about PO box stuff, and I get to know my drivers well enough to that even when they drive up to what looks like a meth lab for delivery or they catch me breaking into a third story window on the outside of an apartment building, they just smile and drive on.
